Change Is Always Near : Maze Runner

Before It All

         It was a normal day for Jessica. Yes, she did live in a maze with a bunch of boys and her bestfriend but is was still normal for her. She woke up did what she normally did said hi to a few people here and there and got to work. Today was normal tomorrow, well that was a whole different story something would happen to Jessica's life that would turn it upside down and never back right up again. As for today, it was normal.

      She set right up in her bed and yawned, she looked around to find someone but she was alone. After a while she finally decided to get up and get dressed for the day. After getting dressed she brushed her hair and headed out the door. " Hey Jess sleep well" she turned to see her bestfriend , Taylor, standing there waiting for her, " yeah I did." They headed down a dirt path to an open field with different obstacles lying around. " Today is going to be a big day for you isn't it," Taylor said.          " How come," Jessica said now starting to run and jump over obstacles. "I heard lots of people are coming to become runners today,and tomorrow marks a month which means a new greenie will come and because you mouthed off to everyone you have to show him and the next ten greenies what we call home." " What you think I cant handle it?" Jessica said now sprinting towards the first obstacle. " No its just that I feel bad for the guys coming to become runners because you're going to knock them down and I also feel bad for the greenie tomorrow because being here is all ready shit but now he gets to see it with you," Taylor said smiling sarcastically. Jessica just finished the last obstacle and headed toward were Taylor was standing." I'm hungry," Jessica said. " You're always hungry," Taylor said back now taking Jess's hand and dragging her to the discussion tent were a meeting was about to start.

      " Now a greenie is coming tomorrow so we need to go over everything that is going to happen," Alby said. Jessica and Taylor had just come in and made there way to the front and took up two seats. " This should be really simple, now all everyone has to do is there job exactly what your suppose to do. That means no lolly gaging, if your builder you stay with builders not with a friend who's a slicer," Newt said eyeing a guy in the back. " Jessica will be the person showing the greenie around so once you see her coming be on your A game," he continued. " Why do we even have these meeting there pointless," Gally shouted out people around started to murmur in agreement. " I don't know about these other shuck faces but I know how to do my job," he continued. Taylor leaned in closer to Jessica "I wouldn't be to sure about that," she whispered. Jessica looked at her confused, Taylor leaned in again " People told me that the new building was suppose to up and running today for the med jacks, but Gally just built the place the way he wanted too and when he went inside the whole thing collapsed on him." Jessica looked at her shocked ,Gally always made it seem like he was an amazing builder." We have these meetings to remind everyone that they were once a greenie too now imagine being placed here but it wasn't run like the way it is today. Imagine this place having no structure no peace people running around trying to kill each other. If you thought being put here now is hard imagine that," Alby said. " Now everyone get back to work, some of us have buildings to clean up ," Newt said.

      Everyone got up and started to walk towards the door. " Are you coming?" Taylor asked looking down to Jessica still sitting. " Nah, I'll catch up with you later," she said smiling. Taylor smiled back and started walking towards the door, having a conversation with Minho on the way out. " You okay it seemed like you zoned out in there," Newt said sitting down next to Jessica. " Yeah I'm fine just thinking about tomorrow," Jessica said. " There's nothing to worry about everything will go just fine," he said with a warming smile. "That's what everyone says right before everything goes all wrong," she said. A little thing about Jessica she was always fearful of the greenies ( I know shocking) anyway she always thought one of the greeneis would come and ruin everything in the glade.
        " Now if there is one thing I've learned about you threw the years is that you are a real bad-ass. The greenie will come you'll show him around then everything will go back to normal, " he said looking down at her. " Thanks, now if you'll excuse I have to go and crush some hearts while I decide who can and who cant be a runner," she said getting up and hugging him and starting to walk off. " Hey don't forget bright and early tomorrow morning," he said watching her walk away. Jessica turned around smiled and nodded then started to run towards the obstacle course.

      " Now some of you will be disappointed in my decision of who gets picked and who doesn't. Everyone will go one after the other and by the end of the day I will have contacted you if you made it. Now if you don't make it as a runner but you still want to change your job make sure you contact me and I'll see if I can transfer you with someone," she said eyeing all the boys. One by one each boy ran threw the obstacle course, some didn't make it some did. After the last person went Jessica repeated once again what would happen if they made it. Then told the boys to go back to their jobs.

         She walked to the start of the course where she kept papers in which the boys had signed their names in the order they went threw the course. She picked them up and walked to a support beam that was raised high in the air horizontal. She pushed herself up there and sat down while looking through the papers. She was recalling how one boy did in the course when she heard someone calling her name from below. She peeked her head over the beam to see Taylor there waving. Jessica sat her papers down and got her friend by both hands and pulled her up onto the beam with her. " So any potential runners," Taylor asked trying to sit up right without falling. " Yeah actually maybe three or four," Jessica replied back still looking down at her papers. Taylor looked surprised normally it was only like one boy out of two weeks who actually made it up to Jess's standards. " You know I should become runner," Taylor said looking at the obstacle course beneath her. Jessica looked up from her papers at her friend " Well what better place to find out than here," she said. Jessica jumped down off the beam then helped Taylor and they both started walking towards the beggning of the course. Just when they got there Taylor started running threw the course she was actually doing pretty good until she fell straight down on her face. Jessica ran over to her best friend and helped her up " Are you okay?" she asked looking at her with worried eyes. Taylor looked to her friend " Do you think that little fall will change my chances of becoming a runner," she asked smiling. Jessica pulled her friend in for a hug and took her hand leading her to the med jacks tent to help with wound starting to form on Taylor's head.
