You and Hero had moved to the Overworld to watch over Steve and Alex. Hero would sometimes get frustrated with Alex for taking Steve out at night to fight the various monsters. Steve was more than happy to go and test his strength and endurance, but Hero was a little over-protective when it came to Steven.
You, on the other hand, enjoyed Alex's company and loved her adventurous spirit. You and her would go into caves and ravines, sometimes bringing Steve along- much to Hero's dismay- and mining every ore found. Today, you were teaching the two how to make an efficient mine. Alex was quickly getting bored and she kept trying to take down the torches to allow monsters to spawn. Steve was happy that there was a quick way to get diamonds without the hassle of monsters.
"Alexandra!" you called for at least the 64th time today. "Stop taking down the torches!"
"But (Y/N)!" Alex whined. "It's boring in here!"
You rolled your eyes. "Then go above ground and meet with Hero. He's bound to have something for you. So please at least let Steve learn how to do this. The kid's not as good a swordsman as you," you told her, waving your hand dismissively.
Alex clapped her hands together and squealed, climbing up the ladder quickly.
~Alex's POV~
I was happy to leave that boring mine. (Y/N) was a good mom (even though she never let me call her that...) but she didn't like to go into real mines. The ones full of lava and monsters and hidden chests! It was weird that a lot of caves in the immediate area were already explored though. There were torches all over the place and all the ores were mined up. And there were a whole ton of raided chests! (Y/N) swore that she and Herobrine didn't go ahead and explore them and then let us go. But... sometimes... I would get this weird feeling that there was something in those caves. Something that wasn't coding, but still a glitch of some sort. I'm sorry, I was rambling again.
So anyhow, I was excited to see what Herobrine had in store for me. I always knew he liked Steve more than me, a lot more (I personally believe he hated me), but the challenges he put me up against were fun. He was always surprised when I survived too. But it was fun watching those eyes of his glow when he was thinking. Sometimes just makes you want to pick him up like a torch and put him somewhere.
I walked up to Herobrine and tapped him on his shoulder, he instantly spun around, holding his sword. I would have gotten my head chopped off if I didn't move out of the way. Herobrine looked down at me. "Oh," he said nonchalantly. "It's you."
"Yup!" I replied with a smug grin. "It's me! Alexandra the first!" Hero's eyes seemed to glitter with that hatred I knew so well. "Anyway, (Y/N) told me to come up here because I was causing too much trouble. So anything for me to do? Want me to kill the Wither again? Or take it a step further and go after the Ender Dragon? Maybe find an Ocean Temple and kill some Guardians?" I inquired.
Herobrine rolled those white eyes of his. It was easy to tell when he did, as his eyebrows always rose when he did this. "Just go make another story book," he said.
My demeanor changed, something was obviously bothering him and of course I'm the first one to run into it and pay for it. I tried not to lose my cool, because even if I did kill the Wither five times, a twelve-year-old like me could stand no chance against Minecraft's very own demon. He'd chop me to bits, and I would still be in pain even after I respawned. And I hated the way he said "story books." It was like he couldn't be happy for me at all, no matter what I did. But you just have to live with it, or you won't live at all.
I rolled my eyes and walked away, grumbling.
~Your POV~
You had just finished showing Steve how to make a mine and were happily watching him dig away at the blocks himself, struggling a little with the weight of the enchanted golden pickaxe. "Don't worry!" you called to him as he put down the pick not even ten blocks after the last time. "Just keep working on it and you'll soon be digging through this stuff like it was air!"
Steve looked at you and nodded with a small smile, wiping his forehead with his shirt and pulling a steak out of his pocket. He munched on it slowly, still tired, and finally grabbed the pick once again and chipped away at the stone.
You were enjoying the coolness of the stone against your back and the sound of running water below your feet, when you got this strange feeling. It was the feeling of dread that you felt multiple times in the caves. The kind of dread of something that shouldn't be there, but is. You stopped leaning on the stone and looked around. What was this? Where was it? What did it want?
After a few minutes of searching, you gave up and decided to tell Steve to call it a day. Steve happily nodded and dragged his pick over to you, throwing it in the chest. You let him climb the ladder first, in case he fell. At last, you and Steve reached the surface and stood up.
"What's wrong with Hero?" Steve asked, looking at Hero, who had his back turned at the time.
You shrugged, saying, "I dunno. What makes you think something's wrong?"
Steve continued to look at Hero's back. "Well his arms are crossed, and he's feeling angry. I just know it," he replied with certainty.
You walked over to Hero and tapped his shoulder. He snapped his gaze toward you, looking about ready to bite someone's head off. Man... The kid's got incredible empathy for such a lonely game... you said to yourself, completely forgetting the fact Hero could read your thoughts. "What are you talking about?" Hero snapped.
You took a step back. "I was just saying that Steve knew something was up. What's wrong?" you asked cautiously, as if you were poking a sleeping bear with a stick.
Hero looked down to the floor. "... Sorry... I don't really know... Just sorta mad for some reason..."
You giggled. "Someone on his man period?"
Hero growled like a wild animal in response.
"Okay! I get it! I get it! Too soon to crack jokes!" you responded quickly, putting up your hands.
~No One's POV~
Nobody noticed the needle-like figure standing in the shadows, perfectly blending in to the darkness. She giggled slightly. "Everything is going just to plan~" she sang to herself. "Soon Minecraft's very own demon will find a deal he can't refuse~"
The creature in the shadows' smile turned horrific; curling sharply while her eyes formed into a rhombus shape. She cackled loudly, catching the attention of Herobrine. She slithered away before anyone saw her. Herobrine dismissed it as day terrors.
A/N: Thank you Firemagestia for the idea and I hope this will turn out as you hope. Don't worry, there will be more people later on in the story. And remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold, bye~! I'm sorry, I'm going through a Bill Cipher craze right now. But seriously, see you kids later!
