There was an enervating wail, drawn-out at first but eventually dulling into a pitiful whimper, resonating from behind the chained double-doors that kept me.
A weak and unheard cry for help. From the shrillness of the voice, I assumed it must have been another woman. I didn't dare ask. I couldn't ask questions anymore, mostly because of the fact that my mouth was gagged and I was strapped in a wooden chair that was bolted into the ground, rendering my limbs immobile.
I could feel a dull ache in my left side; I looked down to see a cauterized gash where the pain was. My dress was torn there, exposing the wound. I felt a firm hand grasp my shoulder from behind, but was unable to turn my head before Leo leaned in close to my right ear, his breath warm against the skin of my neck. My own breathing hitched, and he seemed to know. Chuckling, he slowly pulled away to waltz in front of me so that I could see him properly.
He looked ragged and there was an animalistic look in his eyes. His pupils were so dilated that his irises appeared to be black under the dim light of the room.
I gave a low whimper of my own and began to thrash around helplessly, but I wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
"You're healing well," he began, smiling although it did nothing to comfort me. "And you've made some good progress. I knew there was a reason why Caleb wanted to keep you alive."
My only feasible response was a grunt and another thrash at my bonds, but again, I went nowhere.
It just seemed to amuse him. He started to laugh. "You've definitely got spirit, I'll give him that. Don't worry. He likes you. He has something planned for you, Babyface. If he didn't, well, you'd be dead already."
