"Halloween's day: The day you die!"

Selena stared at what was supposed to be a scary note and smiled. It was only the 24th of June and her roommate, Alex believed it was time to start with silly his Halloween pranks. Did he really think she would fall for it when it was so obvious he dropped the note beside her pillow? Who else had access to their dorm room in the middle of the night? Surely the note wasn't there at the time she went to bed because she would have seen it. Besides, Alex was the only one she knew without a life. When most people were out having a great time or  like her, were snuggled indoors taking their beauty nap of awesomeness, only people with no life A.K.A. Alex crept up on them to place creepy Halloween notes beside their pillow.

It wasn't even October yet, for Pete's sake!

Shaking her head, Selena was about to toss the note in the trash when a mischievous idea crossed her mind. Why not make things a little more interesting? Surely Alex deserved a dose of his own medicine. He started it after all. She got off her bed and walked to the drawer where she'd placed her box of pens. Picking a red one, she scribbled "A single slit of the throat" on the note beside Alex's message and placed the piece of paper on his pillow.

"That should tell him I'm on to his silly prank.

With that, Selena walked into the bathroom for her morning shower. With her regular shower and brushing routine complete, she sat in front of her dresser for the best part of the day - Makeup. While she loved fashion in general, makeup was her favorite bit. Over the top shades of blue, red and black always made her day pop. She applied a double layer of eyeliner for the dramatic eye effect she loved and was coating her lashes with mascara when her eyes caught movement in the room behind her.

Turning sharply around, Selena surveyed every corner of the room as quickly as her eyes could move. No one else was there. After her second glance around the room produced the same result, she shook her head and sighed.

She must have imagined it.

There was nothing out of the ordinary and she was the only one in the room. Selena picked her backpack from the side of her bed and slung it over her shoulder before exiting her dorm. Her classes started by eight and the last thing she wanted was to be late.
