Road Trip

1.

My last day ever at this school, my last day ever of dealing with teachers and rude obnoxious teenagers all day.

Graduation day, best day out of all my years here at school.

"Skylar, you ready darl?"

"Not yet mum!"

I sit at my desk going through my makeup, I wanted to look nice but I don't want to go over the top.

"We'll you should be ready Skylar Claire Bradshaw, I'm ready."

I look up in my mirror seeing Charlotte standing there, she looked beautiful as always.

"If Cody didn't hog the bathroom I'd be ready."

I break the eye contact we had and start doing my makeup, with a little help I get my dress on and my graduation gown.

"Lukes downstairs talking to your parents, he suggested to me that we do a spontaneous road trip. Me, you, Luke, Michael and Calum."

I sit down pulling my combat boots and tie them up.

"A road trip? Who's Michael?"

I was so confused, Charlotte liked to be organized.

"Michael is Lukes best friend, he's just turned 18 I think."

"Where this road trip going to lead us?"

"We're in Sydney, we can travel to Melbourne. Up or down the coast, we need you in on this because your the only one with a 4wd and the only one who can drive."

I sigh getting up and get my stuff together.

"Fine, only if my par-"

"They said yes."

I look at Luke, he looked like a 5 year old on a sugar high.

"Looks like we're going on a road trip."

I pick up my keys and walk down with them, I was taking them and all our parents were going together.

Driving there I zoned out, I could hear Cody talking to Luke about his art work. Charlotte was joining in.

"Skye?!"

"What?"

"Have you heard a word I said to you?"

I shake my head looking at Charlotte then back at the road.

"I was thinking about stuff I need to get for tomorrow."

I pull into a empty parking space, I happen to look over and Charlotte was staring at me. She had something going through her head.

What it was, I have no idea but I will find out. I get everything out of her eventually.

Through the night I couldn't help but think of what Charlotte was planning and I had tafe on my mind. I don't start til next year and I have a part time job on the side.

I don't start there til next year because it's a new cafe/restaurant opening. The night flies by and I don't remember half of it.

I was really off in my own little world all night, knowing my luck it would've been obvious on my face.

I stumble when my wrist is grabbed and I'm pulled to the side.

"Skye, can we talk?"

"Yeah, what's wrong Cody? You look really worried."

I watch him looking around before dragging me outside, I sit him on the bench and I kneel down holding his hands.

"A-a guy asked me to go out with him, I c-couldn't speak. I just ran off."

I look into his eyes seeing his eyes going all glassy and his grip on my hands tightened.

"Hey, it's okay. Theres nothing to be ashamed of, have I ever told you about Luke and Charlotte when he asked her out?"

"N-No, but what has this got to do with me?"

I reach up wiping his cheeks with my thumb.

"We'll, I knew Luke was going to ask her out so we had a whole day planned. I helped her get ready and all of that. When it came time to meeting Luke it was at a park he had a picnic set up. When they sat and talked for a little while I sat behind a tree close by listening, she had a anxiety attack. He didn't know what to do, so I had to go over and step in. She was so embarrassed and so was Luke. You have nothing on that, who's the guy? I'll come with you."

I feel my heart sink seeing the tears on his cheeks but the small smile on his face made that just a little bit better.

"His name is Avery, he's a year older then me. We've been talking for months now."

I smile standing up and help him up.

"Go get him, I'll be right there with you."

I wipe his cheeks and hug him tightly before we walk hand in hand finding Avery.

His face dropped seeing our hands, I smile at him.

"Avery, I'm Skye. Cody's older sister."

"You look different to what I imagined."

I smile and hug him with my free arm, Cody's grip on my hand got really tight.

"I hope it's all good stuff he had told you."

"Yeah, it's all good stuff."

I smile rubbing my thumb over Cody's hand to try calming him.

"That's good, uh so Cody here said you asked him out?"

I look at Avery and then Cody, they were both blushing. I felt kinda awkward being in this position.

"Yeah, but he ran off so I thought I ruined our friendship."

"I didn't know what to say, you haven't ruined anything. I want to go out with you I'm just really shy when it comes to anything personal and I go to my sister."

I let go of Cody's hand as Avery steps closer and they hug, I knew my job was done when I see the smiles on their faces it made me feel good.

The only thing was that my younger brother has a love life better than mine.
