It was a cold Friday night halfway into November, and Lydia found herself at her best friend Allison's dorm room, getting ready to go to a party - something that she completely did not expect herself doing that evening.

"Why is it so important that we go to this party? It's just some frat boys throwing it at their house. It's not like we never get invited to these things," Lydia sighed, swiping on a layer of deep crimson lipstick.

"True, but it isn't every day that we get invited to Stiles Stilinski's frat party," Allison said, her voice muffled from the pile of dresses she was digging through. She finally chose a dark green body con and tried it on, posing in the mirror. "How does this one look?"

"It looks great and you know it." Lydia couldn't help but smile at her best friend, noticing how stunning she looked.

"Now let's pick something out for you," Allison said, returning to the heap of sequins and lace fabrics on her bed.

"Fine," Lydia said. "But it better be comfortable."

Allison resurfaced from the pile with another body con dress, this time a shade of dark purple.

"I swear it's comfortable. It's the most comfortable party dress I own! I promise," she said, after taking one glance at Lydia's skeptical look. "And I have the cutest little pumps and bag to match."

"Seriously, Ally, do you own any clothes that aren't for the club or parties?" Lydia halfheartedly laughed while wiggling into the dress.

"Besides a bunch of sweatpants and T-shirts for classes, probably not," she giggled. "My sense of fashion peaked in high school, and it all went downhill after that. Anyways, the party starts at 10. Check your makeup, grab your stuff, and let's go."

"You know I honestly don't care how I look, so I'm all ready to go."

"Oh really, Lyds? You don't care how you look? If you really weren't planning on picking up at least a couple of frat boys, I don't think you would have worn your best set of lingerie."

Oops.

"I guess you have a point. It is Stiles' party after all," Lydia said, blushing, defeated.

Everybody knew about the Stilinski parties - his frat was beyond legendary. Stiles, a senior at NYU, was known by everyone on campus. If Stiles Stilinski went to your party, chances are that nobody would stop talking about it for weeks; his presence was the highest compliment you could possibly get. He was often likened to Gatsby; he'd throw the most insane parties and most of the time, you could find him off somewhere watching his guests have the time of his lives, wearing his signature, self-satisfied little smirk on his face.

And of course, everybody knew about the one night stands. Stiles was notorious for that - during classes on Monday mornings, a new girl would be telling anyone who would listen about her escapades that weekend with him. He was never one to be in a relationship, but just like everything else surrounding him, the hook ups were unforgettable.

"Ready?" Lydia asked Allison. She ran around her dorm room, double checking everything.

"I hope I look okay. I just want to leave this party with at least the prospect of a boy," she said as the two left the dorm room, moving out into the cold night air.

As Lydia breathed out puffs of air, she said, "You know you look gorgeous, Allison. I hope I do too, since we spent such a long time on our hair and makeup."

Allison nodded, hugging her arms to her chest to try and keep warm. "I've heard Stiles is the life of the party. I'm really excited. I still can't believe we got an invite," she half squealed, skipping a few steps down the cracked sidewalk.

"Be careful! Those are some really high heels you're wearing," Lydia laughed. "I've heard the same about him. Apparently, no matter how much he drinks, he never gets trashed. He's a classy drunk."

"I wouldn't expect anything else from the legendary Stilinski," Allison sighed dreamily.

"Can we at least try to not stay too late? I have an 8 AM seminar tomorrow morning, and I'd like to make it as non hellish as possible," Lydia said.

"No promises. I don't know why you'd sign up for an early Saturday class anyway."

"Quantum physics lectures are only in the mornings and you know that. You owe me one, Ally."

"Sometimes, Lyds, you're just too smart for me to handle. And I know I do. This is why you're my best friend."

Lydia couldn't help but smile.

They walked the rest of the way to the frat house in silence, the only sounds in the still night the clicking of heels on the path.

When the duo entered the frat house, the party was already in full swing. People were packed in wall-to-wall inside the small structure, nearly everyone dancing and holding red Solo cups; it was difficult to hear over the blaring music and chatter of the party-goers.

"I'll go find us some drinks," Ally yelled into Lydia's ear. "Go! Mingle! If we get separated I promise you'll be fine! I believe in you." Seeing Lydia's unsettled facial expression, she added, "You look hot tonight! Be confident and all the boys will come crawling to you." She gave Lydia's hand a squeeze and then she was off, searching for alcohol and some cute guy to hook up with.

Unsure of what to do without Allison by her side, since she was twice the party girl Lydia was anymore, Lydia made her way slowly through the crowd. She saw cute frat boys everywhere she looked, but most of them were already talking to or had a girl by their side.

After worming her way through the packs of people, Lydia found a drinks table set up in the corner of what seemed to be the main room and decided to lean against the wall next to it, hoping that Allison would find her way to it eventually.

Lydia watched people all around her dancing, drinking, having fun, not joining in herself; she had always resigned herself to only observing, never participating. Her years of high school house parties and police calls by the neighbors were far behind, left in Lydia's past - high school education was a joke, but she knew it was time to crack down and focus on herself.

Suddenly, she felt someone lean in close behind her and whisper in her ear, "Hey baby girl, want a drink?"

Lydia turned around to see a boy with pouty lips, big brown eyes, and messy ash brown hair. Even without his conventionally attractive yet mischievous good looks, just the aura he gave off told Lydia exactly who this boy was. Much to her dismay, her stomach immediately twisted into knots.

"Uh, no thanks," she said, completely caught off guard. "I'm here with my best friend, she's getting us drinks already."

"Well I don't see her anywhere with you," the boy said smoothly. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Stiles."

"I know who you are," Lydia said, a little coldly.

"If you know who I am, then why are we still standing here?" he questioned, slinging an arm around her shoulder. Lydia tried to shrug him off, only allowing his hand to travel down to her waist.

"We're still standing here because I'm waiting for my friend, and you haven't even given me the chance to introduce myself."

"I'm sorry, baby. What's your name?" The sarcastic tone in his voice deepened, frustrating her. "I like a challenge."

If a challenge was what he wanted, Lydia decided to give one to him.

"Lydia, but I won't lie, I love when you call me baby."

Lydia pulled his hand away from her waist and leaned in, as if for a kiss, but as soon as she was just inches from his face, she whispered, "If you really want me, come find me," and whirled away to walk back into the crowd.

As Lydia blended back in with the dancing masses, she regretted not staying with him with every step she took, while still proud of leaving him wanting more.
