I awoke in the tall grass. It's color was dull. The sky seemed smoky and grey. The clouds were almost dead still. Nothing was moving. I turned my head slowly to my right to see a broken down building. Chunks of the concrete walls were missing and the rusting water pipes were sticking out of the top, some dripping with water. There were pieces of broken glass spread across the dirt path that surrounded the building. My head hurt and my ears were ringing. I sat up, struggling to get into the sitting position. My arm slipped on a small area of wet grass and I landed back to the ground hard. Something cut my wrist; the glass.
"Ahh!"
I grabbed the wound in pain, feeling the warm blood leak from my hand and down my arm. I used my nails to see if there was a small piece of glass in the cut. I couldn't see it; the blood was blocking the way. I looked to the left, still clutching my wrist and saw a tree that was maybe about 20 feet away. The tree looked burned and black. There were small remains of the tree's branches lying on the ground. They looked like long pieces of coal. I was finally able to get up. My legs were shaking as I got up, as if I hadn't used them in ages. I slowly walked towards the tree as I stumbled and almost fell again. My bare feet trampled through small piles of ashes that caused them to become pale.
Who could have made these ashes into small piles? Ashes don't just form like that; they spread around and cover the ground. They don't just stay in one place..
A small navy blue cloth blew onto my leg; it was soft. I grabbed it before the wind took it out of my reach and tied it around my cut.
*************Okay. I really don't know where I'm going with this, but I'll try to figure it out soon. :)
