There I lay in silence
as darkness loomed at bay
like the wisp of nothingness waiting
for another prey.
Silence was thick you can
hear vibrations in the distance.
If only silence could be counted-
one silence, two silences,
three silences-
then traded for happiness I
would be at bliss.
But silence could not be traded,
silence could not fix a thing.
Silence could not fix this heart
it was cracking.
And there I lay in silence
phone against the ear
silence surrounds me like
wasps around an enemy.
It happened when he told me
he was leaving
like everything else that could
never be.
Straight out the door like an
idiosyncrasy.
Though isn't it quite funny
how it happened
in a blurry?
(The stars aligned, fused, and fissioned
in the same week-what caused such a hurry?)
Like the universe thought it
was silly to introduce this
endearing history nerd then
pulls at it like some stray thread.
When silence was broken
all I said was
"That's a little bit hard to take."
And he,
apologised like he
was the one to blame
for the universe's
wicked game.
