I stare at the girl infront of me. Her black eyes are lifeless, and a dark shade creeps below them. Her chapped, white lips are pursed together into a thin line and she has more cuts on her face than skin. Her gaze bores into mine and I let out a shaky breath, that fogs the mirror infront of me.

I hear shouts and chanting beyond the door to my left. In a few minutes, I will be walking through that door and into the crowd. I shiver at the thought. This was not what I wanted. This was never what I wanted.

Suddenly, my thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a gong outside. The hum of the metal resonates through my chest and I look down at my hands. It is time.

I turn and clutch the door knob. I see the light, in the gap between the door and the floor, flicker as shadows move. I steady myself and look at the door behind me, over my shoulder.

A split second and an hesitant movement got me walking toward the other door. And before I knew it, I was outside. And then, I ran. I ran as fast as I could; as fast as my weak legs could take me. Cold breeze whipped my face and stung my wounds, but I didn't stop. All I could hear now was adrenaline humming in my ear and the fading chatter of a huge crowd.
