The sky grew dark, the moon growing large on the horizon as the night fell across the land, stars gleaming in the sky, and yet, the feeling of evil and darkness was present in the air, bringing an eerie stillness to the world. Then it happened, a loud explosion, uprooting trees and sending dirt flying into the air. A boy came running from the explosion, the look of distress apparent in his face, crusted with dirt and blood. He gasped loudly as he found his way to a beaten path in the forest. He took off running, dodging obstacles in his way, avoiding sticks and gnarled roots that grew out from the surrounding ancient trees. He kept running, afraid to look back, but he looked anyway, only to see a large dark figure swing its fist at him, uprooting more trees as it impacted. He tried to run faster. His thoughts were racing faster than he was, and he was shocked that he was keeping up this fast pace. He could only remember ever being a sprinter, never able to be continuously fast. But he didn't question this newfound speed and endurance. He kept running. He heard a roar tear through the sky, echoing around the forest. The boy saw light shine brightly behind him, and as quickly as he could, he changed direction, cutting through the trees and trying not to trip. As soon as he changed his direction, the light followed him, and he heard the beam that the beast fired from its gaping mouth make contact with the ground, hearing the ground being ripped into and scarred, fires starting all around and spreading.

The boy found an adjacent path and started to follow it, even though it led in a new direction, back toward the beast, but moving away. The creature turned its head when its beam stopped, and spotted the boy running down the path away from him. The monster turned to follow, and kept rather close in his pursuit. The boy ran faster, his dark brown hair pushed back by the wind, his jaw set as he imagined himself on the soccer field, chasing the ball and the player that was in control. He ran faster and faster, trees whipping by him, the foliage growing less dense. Before he knew it, his surroundings were changing to be that of the city that he lived near. He was running down pavement by the time he realised. And he stopped to catch his breath, and look around. He saw the moon in the sky, big and crimson. He took his surroundings in, feeling everything, seeing everything, from the light breeze flowing over his sweat-drenched skin and through his matted hair, to the creepy quiet and red light that was so unnatural. He walked around some, looking for any signs of life. He made it to the city centre, which was usually green, even at night. But the park that was at the heart of the centre was blood red. He made his way slowly, his body tensing as he arrived at the fountain at the centre of the park. His eyes widened, and his mouth hung open, with his hand going to cover it when he saw what was laid there waiting for him. Scattered all around the fountain were the limp bodies of everyone that lived in the city. He closed his eyes, and felt his stomach clench, and his throat shortened as he threw up what little was in his stomach. He looked back to see if anyone he knew was there, and he regretted it immediately. His eyes fell on the blood-soaked and torn body of his brother. He remembered that his brother was going to be in the city with some of his friends. The boy threw up again, and he ran away from the carnage, unable to stomach anymore. He heard an earth-shattering crash and stopped, and saw as the massive figure, the beast, was looming over the park.

The boy looked forth in awe and disbelief. He never even heard the creature arrive. The boy finally got a good look at the creature. It looked to be almost 30 stories tall, with a gaping hole in its chest and a vibrant white mask, resembling a skull. The white mask had large horns, similar to ram's horns. It had long, thick arms that hung more than halfway down its body. He stood there, gazing up at the creature, when he was shocked back to reality. The beast swung its massive arms and decimated two large office buildings without any difficulty. The boy turned to run, but was stopped by a smaller figure in a white robe, but shrouded in darkness. He could make out little detail about this new figure, other than it was a little taller than he was. The figure spoke in a deep gravelly voice.

"Finally, I have you now, boy!"

The figure was emanating a heavy pressure and the boy felt himself being crushed. He collapsed and was about to lose consciousness. Then he heard it. Three small sounds that sounded like buzzing, and they were accompanied by dull flashes. Three figures, all cloaked in black, brandishing rather large blades appeared, defending him from the demon. The pressure that was added from these three new beings was overwhelming, and he blacked out.
