Chapter 18

You were on your way to the library to catch up on some studying. It had been exactly 4 months since the "shadow demon incident" and that was also how long you were dating Zane Truesdale. You were preparing for the dueling exams. During this time of year, everyone goes into study mode. You let out a huff and stare at the azure skies.

"This is so confusing!" You point out, "Not really, Amores. Take a closer look." You add, "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman's attack goes up when the Skyscraper field spell card is played. That's one of Jaden's signature moves." Amores put her hands over her ears, "I can't hear you!" Valkyria shook her head, "Childish as always. Then again, she's never been the type to enjoy a study session." You begin to laugh at Amores' behaviour. Dark Magician points out, "Y/N you are in a library, right?" You answer, "I know, I know. No one ever comes here anyway. It's not like I'll run into someone I know."

Zane was heading towards the library to meet up with you. In his hand, he held the bracelet that had hidden from you for so long. He was planning on giving it to you to celebrate your four month anniversary. With high hopes, Zane entered the silent library.

Your view were suddenly dark. A voice asked, "Guess who?" You giggle, "Zane, stop! I know it's you!" You were then met with the eyes of your teal-haired boyfriend. You quietly stand, but feel yourself being hugged by Zane.

You were taken aback at first, but your heart melted from the sudden yet sweet embrace. You smile, "You've always know how to make me happy, Zane." He said, "Y/N, we don't have to worry about the shadow demons anymore. We don't have to live in constant fear, we can be free to live our life together." Zane had let go of you and you watched him search his pockets. He then spoke up, "I got this for you. Happy anniversary, mi amor."

You were amazed, "Zane....it's so beautiful." Zane held up his wrist, "I have one too, so that we can match." Zane then takes your hand and places a gentle kiss on it. He then lays his hand over your own.

He then said, "Y/N, I love you. I love you so much. I'll always tell you that, no matter the circumstance." You felt your cheeks flush when he spoke those sweet words. You couldn't stop smiling at the moment. You never had the chance to have moments like this with him. It was rare, but you loved it.

With your fingers linked to Zane's, you continued to study. Zane was amazed at how quickly and efficiently you studied. He couldn't help but stare at you. You remark while writing something down, "It's not polite to stare, Zane." Zane answers, "I'm not staring, I'm admiring. I'm admiring how adorable you are when you're focused on something." You stop writing, "I don't get what you're admiring. I'm just doing something normal." Zane takes your hands in his and replies, "I love you, you know that?" You answer, "I know, you always tell me."

Later on, you were sick of staring at the text in front of your eyes. Zane tried to encourage you but you shook your head. You say, "I can't take anymore of this. My head hurts from all this studying." Zane replies, "We've been at this for a while, I admit. Let's take a break, I'm sure you want to leave the library already." You nod, "I never thought I'd get sick of staring at a book for a long time." Zane smiles, "Let's go."

You and Zane had left the library about ten minutes later. As you both walked together, you admired the new addition on your wrist.

Valkyria had a small smile on her face. She comments, "She's much happier with him. I've never seen this happy before." Ebon Magician Curran coos, "They're so cute!!" Magician of Black Chaos just scoffed in annoyance. Dark Magician Girl sighs, "Boys....they'll never understand what love is like." Breaker explains, "Just ignore him, he's just annoyed with that Dmitri guy. I admit though, he's a tough nut to crack." Fire Empress hit Black Chaos with her staff. She asked, "Could you not act so morose? Or is this moment too soft for you?" Valkyria said, "Just leave him alone. He's just annoyed with some of the guys Y/N knows." Black Chaos finally spoke up, "I'm not annoyed with that, that copycat kid is just a bit annoying. You know, there's some stupid dance coming up. Maybe Y/N would want to go with that Truesdale guy." The female spirits look at each other with a smirk.

You were both resting in your usual meeting place. You've always loved sitting under a tree and relaxing with no distractions. Zane was playing with a piece of your hair, "I heard that there's a dance coming up soon. Do you....want to go?" Is he asking me to the dance? You reply, "I would love to go with you, Zane." You saw that Zane's cheeks were tinted with a hint of cherry. You said, "What's this? Zane Truesdale is blushing? What a shock!" Zane became embarrassed, "Y/N stop.....it's not funny!" You pinch his cheek, "I think it's adorable. I bet you never blushed like this when you were younger." Zane said, "That's it!" You squeal and begin to run away from him. He hugs you from behind and whispers, "Caught you, mi amor." You blush and feel a kiss being placed on your neck. This boy knew how to make your heart race like crazy.

Zane is in love with you. He couldn't keep it inside of him. He didn't think that a girl would get him to open up his heart. He didn't think he would fall in love with his best friend's sister. He was watching you giggle and smile as you were enjoying the weather. Zane always knew that someday he would have to open up to someone about how he felt. He never realized how he felt about you.....he didn't realize it until everyone he cared for had almost died under the hands of darkness. When he saw what you had done, Zane knew that his feelings for you had changed.

It was funny. You didn't think that you'd fall for Zane. You were in love with him but you felt something more whenever you were with him. You couldn't help but be amazed whenever he spoke. The way he spoke, the way he composed himself...it was always so calm. The only time you saw him uncomposed was during the dark battle with the shadow demons. When everything was falling and you thought that you had lost all hope......Zane was there to pull you back up from hurt. He would always protect you and you had done the same in return. You didn't understand his logic though, it was confused you. There were some things about Zane that you felt were better left alone. Zane Truesdale.....he was your muse.

Zane always thought that having perfect marks was everything that he needed. He never thought about his heart or his mind. He always pushed them back and went on with his life. That had changed when he met you, his perspective on life had changed entirely. Nothing was the same. Zane always found himself wondering where you were or wanted to know what you were doing. He was amazed during the final battle with the shadow demons. He was shocked at first when your appearance changed, but he learned to accept it. He only cared if you were okay. Zane didn't care if your appearance had changed, he wanted to know if you were okay or not. He had fallen in love with your logic, your heart and your overall perspective on life.

What is love? That was a question that you would ask yourself. You never knew how you would answer that question. You had asked your parents that question, but they gave you the same response every time. It's something that you can't take away. It's like a steel dagger put into your back that you can't remove alone. Your partner is the only one who can help you. You didn't understand the "steel dagger" part but the rest of it stuck inside of you.

Someday, you wanted to live the rest of your life with Zane. You knew, you just knew that nothing between you and Zane would ever change. If it did, that change would be a positive one.
