'The day of Eliot's party arrived. I was kind of uneasy about going without Quentin, and I was starting to display certain feelings for Eliot, I couldn't tell Erin about my certain attraction to him, no matter how much I wanted to deny it, there was something about Eliot that I couldn't figure out, but something I had promised, for Quentin's safety. I had entered last, before Eliot showed up dressed like the phantom...'

"Hi, you're Victoria Meadows, right?" A girl said

"Yeah.." I said

"I'm Alice.. I offered to show you around the first week?" Alice said

"How are you?" I asked

"Good. I'm fine. Thank you. " Alice said

"So, who are you here with?" I asked

"I'm just here with a group of friends, and you're here with, whoever the Phantom is?" Alice asked

"Yeah, the Phantom is my date, I couldn't find Quentin anywhere, I searched all over the campus. But I found a last minute date." I said

"At least you're here with someone and  not alone, I wish I had someone who cared enough for me. I mean I've seen how Quentin and Eliot have been fighting over you." Alice said

'I then pulled Alice close, embracing her with a friendly hug, comforting her as I could feel and sense the pain and sadness being bottled up inside of her..'

"You're not alone, Alice. I know how it feels, losing someone you care so much about, I lost my mother when I was four, I had to help my dad care for my brothers and sisters, I didn't have time for a childhood, or much of a social life, until I came here. I know what it's like to feel so much pain over the loss of a family member." I said

"Victoria, I'm sorry. I had no idea..." Alice paused

"Thank you, Alice. You're a great friend, and if it'll make you feel better, I consider you my sister." I said

"I like that, Victoria. Thank you." Alice said, hugging me

"Victoria, I need to talk to you." Eliot whispered

"Alice, could you excuse me for a minute?" I asked

"Of course, take all the time you need." Alice said

"What is it, Eliot?" I asked after he had taken hold of my hand leading me away

"Don't freak out, but Quentin's gone." Eliot said

"What do you mean Quentin's gone? Wasn't he hidden in the boiler room?" I asked whispering sharply

"The Fillorians must have taken him..." Eliot said

"Fillorians? Eliot, what in hell is a Fillorian?" I asked

"You've never been there, have you?" Eliot asked

"What are you talking about?" I said "Fillory & Further, the book series by Christopher Plover." Eliot said

"It kind of sounds familiar..." I said "Quentin knows about that series. It's all he reads.." Eliot said

"Victoria, Quentin's gone." Erin said

"I know, my date already informed me." I said

'Erin had reached up for Eliot's mask, suddenly, Eliot had turned his back, I had taken hold of his arm and followed him through a portal leading to Fillory...'

"Eliot, I'm sorry about your party.." I said

"Don't worry about it. It was getting kind of boring anyway, let's just find Coldwater, and get back to Brakebills." Eliot said

'We had then walked further into town, when we came across the knifemaker's home...'
