Cigarette Daydreams - Cage the Elephant
The air was cold outside. Snow was falling lightly on the ground and the house blared music. It was the biggest party of the year and everyone was there. Whoever wasn't was a goner.
Lyla Reid was rubbing up against a guy, touching his chest and kissing him and carelessly having a fling that she would forget about in a day's time.
"Lyla," The boy said, pulling away and holding up a baggie containing a white substance that Lyla Reid knew and recognized too much for her own good.
Without a word, Lyla Reid followed him to the bathroom as he laid out lines of it on the bathroom counter.
She knew it was bad. She knew it wasn't good for her and she knew that she owed him a lot of money. She knew all the bad things of the world and all the bad things that could've happened to her.
But Lyla Reid did it anyways.
She snorted it and she made out with him and snorted some more.
To her, it was an endless cycle. More drugs. More flings. More things to make her forget about her problems and her life that she so badly wanted to go away. Lyla Reid wanted a fix.

And he always had that for her.

Everyone knew her name. Everyone knew who she was and where she lived and that she was a druggie. Everyone saw that she was a beautiful, cocky human being. What they didn't know, though, would've surprised them. They didn't know her family life or what she did apart from drugs or that she was afraid of them and everything they said. They didn't know that her dad was locked up in jail and they didn't know that her mom was in a mental asylum. They didn't know these things and they didn't need to know these things. They didn't want to know them.

And Lyla Reid didn't want to, either. Which is why she did all the bad things she knew would hurt her.

Because it made her forget.
