His mind was absent, his body held perfectly still, his breathing was swallow, his mate was in full wolf. The dark brown illuminated the surface of Zero’s eyes. Each of the War wolves coward in a huddle as their Alpha wasn’t allowing anyone to move. Langdon hadn’t moved since the tree cracked him in the back of the head. His mate had cleaned all wounds and stood guard over him without rest.

One of the War wolves whimpered as his stomach growled. Zero’s eyes locked him, he had been cruel in the time they had finally found his mate. A small whimper returned towards the wolf. With his head high and his chest puffed out, Zero stepped forward growled for the wolf to come forward. With his head dropped and his tail tucked, the wolf came forward. Zero nipped his ear then licked it. The War wolf nudge against him.

‘I have been unkind, go hunt. I will not move him until you get back.’

                ‘Alpha?’ the War wolf whined.

‘Go, I cannot leave him.’ Zero sent the Alpha command between the orders. ‘Return once you are done.’

‘Yes, Alpha.’ The War wolves said in unison.

Once the War wolves left Zero he went back to Langdon and laid down. Licking his mate’s leg, Zero whimpered. The bruising was starting to go away from his body. He figured the more times he licked, the faster they would disappear. He’s not sure how much time had passed since the event happened, all he knew was his eyes were glued to his mate.

Raising his head, he titled it to listen to Langdon’s breathing. Watching the chest rise, Zero shot up and leaned over him. Making sure he wasn’t seeing things, he held his breath and watched with intense eyes. Langdon’s chest rose higher than it was before. Zero nudge him to see if he could get a response from him, nothing. At least Langdon’s breathing was picking up.

He’s eyes searched the land around him, nothing seemed to be wrong. Every fiber of his body screamed that something was wrong. Checking the sky, he noticed that a storm was brewing off to the East. Strange, a storm had just came from the West. What was the chances of that happening? His skin began to crawl, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. His wolf began to howl inside of his head.

‘Right there with you.’ He thought to the beast within.

Jumping onto his bike, he kicked started, threw back the kickstand and revved the throttle until him and the bike was flying down the road. Everything in his body told him to run. After dealing with seven missing days, he was damn sure not staying around for the next storm to hit.

Soon as he felt the lightning in the air, the wolf jerked the bike off of the road into the driveway of a crappy motel. With his bag thrown over his shoulder, he hurried inside to the desk. Lightning crackled over the sky as the door opened. Quickly shutting the door, his eyes went for the sky. The storm was directly over him. Like it was waiting for him to step a foot out the door. Challenging him to show himself.

‘Not today,’ the wolf turned around to the desk.

The woman standing behind the desk was eyeing him with a curious expression. Her eyes darted down towards his feet then went up the length of his body. Hovered around his chest for a moment then finished the travel up to his face. By time she was done checking him out, the wolf had grown irritated.
