Battle Scars

Her skin is covered in battle scars
from her greatest enemy--the battle is ongoing
for this enemy of hers cannot trust her own heart

what are you supposed to do when you are your own worst enemy?

She no longer tries to hide,
She refuses to allow herself to be that weak
She will not keep it inside
even when her outlook seems bleak.

The girl is a fighter, was one from the start,
one day, her world came crumbling around her
That's why she has those marks on her arms
She couldn't hold in such a large amount of hurt.

Time passes and the scars begin to fade
they become a reminder of just how far she has come
her scars are her stories of all her horrible yesterday's,
that battle is done now, for it has been won.

Those scars are all that remain of that war,
a war self-inflicted, a war left behind
They will always remind her of what she's fighting for
a future. a life. a path to unwind

Her skin is covered in battle scars
from her greatest enemy who is becoming her greatest ally.
She still makes sure to guard her heart,
but now she doesn't keep it bottled up inside.
