The goldish-pinkish light filtered in through the windows of my bedroom, fading as quickly as it had come.
I sighed and turned away from the setting sun.

I had been grounded for a few weeks and tomorrow I had to go to a stupid reform camp thingy. It was for sexually-confused kids. Just the thing for my parents to send me to.

Sorry about the rude tone at the beginning. My name is Jade Randolph. I'm a 16 year old, pansexual girl.

My parents are super homophobic and are trying everything to change my sexuality. Somehow, I'm going to stay myself at this camp, even if it's the last thing I do.

I curl up in my warm sheets, trying to make it through the night.

"Wake up! Time to go to camp!" My dad bursts into my room.

I groan but get up anyway. Resistance is futile. I look through my closet and pick out some jeans and a three quarter sleeve shirt.

As I take off my pajamas, I see glimpses of the scars running down my arms and cringe. I don't cut anymore, mostly because of my friends, but the scars are still there.

I tug my sleeves down and finish getting dressed.

On my way out of the room, I grab my suitcase.

"Toodles." I say to my room for some weird reason. Don't worry, I'm just special.

My dad drives me to the airport and we sit in almost complete silence. Right before I was about to go, my dad stopped me.

"You know I love you, right? I wanted the best for you and that's why I'm sending you here. It's unnatural and this whole lifestyle is just for needy kids who need attention. I don't want you to be one of those kids." He finishes, looking at me earnestly.

"Love you, Dad." I say, smiling weakly.

I can't believe anything he said. When I first came out to him, he started slapping me and calling me a fag. He just doesn't want his family name shamed.

I'll show him, all right," I think. I climb out of the car and make my way towards the large ranch-type place, my suitcase trailing behind me.
