My body aches and it's dark. "Hello?" No response. There are chains around my wrist and I'm naked. Where am I? How did I get here? These were the questions that wouldn't leave my head. I look up through the little window above my head and all I see is the moon. The same moon that has haunted me ever since I can remember.
It was the first day of my senior year. Best year of school, right? The good thing is that I don't have many classes so more time to spend with the ladies. I have a girlfriend but what she doesn't know won't kill her. Her name is Heather and she just so happens to be the cheerleading captain and the schools biggest Christian. This whole "sex before marriage" thing isn't in her best interest so a guys-gotta-do what a guys-gotta-do.
I told Heather that we'd go see a movie later tonight, which was a big mistake because I got an invitation to join a "friend" in a hotel room. I called her and told her that my cat died to get out of it which wasn't a complete lie. My cat was gone. He just ran away. I hung up the phone and got into my old beat up mini. I got as far as Weasley Ln and Gates Dr before a fox ran out in front of my car. I swerved out of the way just enough to miss the fox but not enough to miss the stop sign. My car hit the pole; bent my fender, and shattered my windshield. My head was stinging with pain and I couldn't feel my body. Only it wasn't from the crash. I looked up to confirm my thoughts and sure enough the moon was full. All I could hear next were my bones breaking, and an occasional bone-shift. I'm now in the body of a wolf.
I don't always remember what happens during my time as a wolf. My grandfather says it's normal. The wolf gene runs in the family but it skips generations and only occurs in males. For example; my father doesn't have it and neither will my sons.
I just so happen to remember everything that happened those nights. I hung around my car until the police showed up to investigate. Luckily for me, I didn't leave any blood from the turn. I went by the hotel where I was supposed to meet my "friend". Turns out she stood me up. I couldn't stay out in the open because, in the little town where I live, there are hunters. I ran towards the woods to see if I could catch a deer or something to eat. Us good wolves eat animals unlike the bad ones who eat people, hence the need for wolf hunters. I headed to the middle of the woods because that's where the deer like to hide. Hunters are in the woods 24/7 so you have to know your way around in order to avoid them. It takes twice as long to go around them and I wasn't feeling up to it so I cut through. I didn't see any hunters and I thought that maybe they were taking the night off. I got to the center of the woods just in time to see a huge buck. It's a lot harder to take them down on your own. I lunged at him and barely missed him. He started running and I followed quickly. I bit at his ankles trying to get a good grip. Eventually I caught his back left ankle and dragged him to the ground. I went to grab his back with my jaw when I got a sharp pain in my shoulder blade. My vision went blurry and I saw blood run to the floor seconds before everything went black.
