My father has never been a very compassionate man but mother always said that's why we have soul mates. The way he looks at her, like she is the sun, the moon and all the stars,I know that it's true.
My mother brushes my hair as she sighs "Little one, you grow up too fast."
She's been saying that all week. It's starting to bug me."I'm turning 14 mama, not 40." I huff in annoyance.
She smiles sadly but doesn't say anything. Strange,she is never a silent person.She goes back to brushing my hair and kisses the top of my head as she stands."Goodnight Alice, we'll go for pancakes in the morning."
I climb under my covers and lay down. Mumbling "Night mama." She turns off the lights and closes the door behind her. Sleep swiftly takes over.

Why is the ground shaking? What? Wh~
I jolt awake to my mother shaking me frantically.A loud alarm blares through the house.
I yell at my mother"What? What's going on!?"
She pulls me roughly from bed."We have to go, hurry! Get your~"
"Ahhhhhh!" I scream as a loud crash in the hallways makes her run to my door and push the dresser over to block it.
I cry out "What are you doing!? What if it's daddy!?"
She rushes by me to the window just as another loud crash vibrates my door. Finally I smell it. Something earthy yet dark almost foul.A rogue.I start to panic and tremble.
My mother starts to shake me as the rogue claws the door."You need to go Alice!"
She opens the window and turns back to me. She holds my face, staring into my eyes.Greenish Silver. Like my father's. She starts crying.
She kisses my forehead and climbs out the window."Hurry! Alice come!"
I look back to my bedroom door as the rogue rushes it again.It starts to crack, rushing to the window I climb out after her.
We both drop to the ground hard but mother pulls me up and pulls me towards the tree line."Shift Alice! You need to shift now!"She growls, her face already mid-shift. She drops to the ground as her clothes tear apart and fall from her body.I have never shifted before, today, my 15th birthday was suppose to be the first. It was suppose to be a celebration not an act of survival! Still I call to my wolf and embrace her. The pain is excruciating, most shifts are but forcing it, especially a first shift is always more painful. Mother paces me as I finish.
~~Snap.Snap.~~
Mother growls, her fur stands up on edge.She lowers her head and growls again menacingly as two wolves and a naked man emerge across from us. The naked man is covered in blood with a long jagged scar down the right side of his face.
His eyes glow red, another sign of a mad rogue. He laughs at my mother "Lyda just come with us and I won't hurt you both.I want you as mine, you understand." My mother growls at him again and he frowns angrily.
He growls and spits at us"I will have you beneath me! One way or another.I don't care if it's screaming!"
He lunges at her, shifting quickly. Mother dodges him and mind links with me "Run Alice! I'll hold them off and be right behind you!"
"No!mama I can't just leave you!" I cry.
"Yes,you can! Now Go!Run Alice!" Mother growls at the rogue.
I take off running, forcing myself not to cry
"Yes! Run Alice.. Don't let Michal get you.Don't stop running..."
The link breaks and I know she is gone. My sweet mother is dead. Feeling numb I keep running from the life I loved,the screams that still echo on the wind and the madman with red eyes.
