Before He Came Along

Chapter 1

"Mira, I swear to God if you don't leave that laptop and come do your chores I am going to sieve it..." Amira's mom shouted. She pretended she wasn't hearing her and continued with her game.

Amira always hated weekends at home because those are the only days the house help doesn't come in. And being the senior between herself and her sister Asira, she did most of the work. Her sister being eight years younger, didn't do much except watch her cartoons. All Amira wants to do all day is play her video games online with Nur.

Nur is their neighbor who is in the same class as Amira. They have been best friends since primary school. He is the only child to his parents but he has a cousin who used to live with them but he had to leave for some reason Amira didn't know. Amira wasn't like other girls they attended school with, she was more of a tomboy due to hanging around with Nur. She had only one female friend Huda, who had to move to another state with her parents when they were in junior secondary school. Her mom tried so hard to make her act more like a girl but it was no use because each time Amira made sure she won the argument.

The second thing she loved to do was help Nur's mom, Aunt Maryam as she calls her plant flower's in her garden. She loves flowers, when she was small she would go out and plug out all kinds of leaves and flowers and bring them into the house, her mom would get so mad at her but her dad always laughed which only pissed her mom off more.

"That's it Mira, if you don't get up... You are not going to the neighbor's to help Maryam with her garden" her mom finally said.

That seemed to get her attention because she immediately stood up and put the Laptop on the center table. "I'm sorry mama, I'm going to start now..." she said quickly as she hurriedly made her way to the kitchen.

Her mom sighed finally, shaking her head.

An hour later, Amira went back into the palour, where her mom was sitting with her dad reading the newspaper and Asira watching her cartoons.

"I'm done" she announced.

"The dishes? laundry?" her mom asked to be sure.

"Yes" she answered. " So mama... Can I go?" she continued.

"Be back before Magrib"

"Thank you, Thank you mama. I love you" she replied happily and before her mom could answer, she was already out the door and quickly made her way to Nur's house.

As she stood outside the door, she rang the bell and eagerly waited for it to get opened.

"Oh my dear, Its you" Nur's mom said as she opened the door. "I was out back, I hope you didn't wait long"

"No Aunty, I just rang the bell once" she answered excited"

"Okay dear, go ahead upstairs. Nur is there playing game as usual, I'm going to finish up somethings and we can start"

"Alright" she answered, she went upstairs to the sitting room where Nur was sitting with his full attention on the TV "What's the Occasion?" she asked as she got closer.

" Good you are here, Grab the other controller. What do you mean?"

"Your mom is super happy today" she picked up the controller and sat beside him on the big couch.

"I didn't tell you? Adam is coming home this week" he replied with his attention still on the screen.

For as long as she had Known Nur, she has also Known his cousin Adam. Nur spoke of him all the time, at times when he spoke of him, Amira would wonder whether this Adam was some sort of Superhuman because according to Nur, Adam was the most amazing person. She has became attached to the Adam guy without even knowing it, she looked forward to hearing stories about him every time she came over. And the funny thing was she has never seen him, only in pictures.

"Why didn't you tell me?" she asked hitting him with the controller she held.

"Hey... why would you do that?, that hurt. We only found out this morning, He wanted it to be a surprise" he rubbed his hand where she hit him.

"Okay" she nodded but deep inside she was jumping with happiness because she was finally going to meet the famous Adam.

"And why do you have that face? Are you having a crush on my Cousin? Nur teased her.

She didn't realize she was smiling till he spoke "I'm not" she stopped smiling "Lets continue..."

"Amira... I'm done" his mom called her from downstairs.

"This is not over, go play with your flowers. I will be right here" he continued teasing her.

"Shut up!" she threw a pillow at him before heading downstairs.
