I was tricked today. There was a phone call at the house and since Mom and Dad and Verge were gone (Mom didn't get home until noon) and Bastian took Chance out to play at the pool, I picked up the phone. And it was one of the girls in my class. She invited me over and I was really thrilled that finally someone was talking to me, but when I got to the address I found out it was just a creepy empty house. I went inside thinking maybe there was a small-town initiation thing that I was missing, but all I got was shut and locked in the building. I ended up having to break a window to get out. I'm really glad there weren't any people around to call the police on me because I'm pretty sure breaking other people's houses is illegal, but at least now I know not to trust the people in this place. They're all really mean and I can't even write right now or I'll get the journal all wet and ruin my ink.
They do not know loneliness. All they know is a new victim to play with, a new child who does not know any better than to trust them. Pay them little heed. There will be a time and a place to find a price for their bullying, but this is not it.
