"What do you mean the anchor?" Riku and Sakurai asked.
"(F/N) here used to be the anchor for us. Not in any official races but for practices." Heath said, giving a bright smile.
"It was a shame girls couldn't join a boys team." Kyosuke said with a small frown.
"What did she do with her talent then?" Riku asked. You laughed slightly.
"I joined a girls Stride team." Heath put his hand on your shoulder, knowing how hard this was for you.
"Why aren't you with them now?" Riku asked.
"Riku don't." Kyosuke growled out.
"It's fine Kyosuke, I should at least tell them a little bit," You turned to speak to Riku,"Well I got kicked off the team, I kept messing up and we would never win. So they decided they didn't want me there. So here I am."
"That was a bad choice on their behalf." Riku said and your eyes widened as you remember an old friend saying those exact words to you.
"That's funny, a friend of mine said the exact words to me when I told him." You chuckled.
"Who is this friend of yours?" Sakurai asked and you turned to look at her. You smiled.
"An old friend, you may know him. Tomoe Yagami." You said, the corners of your mouth turning upwards.
"My brother?" Riku yelled and your head snapped up.
"That's your brother?" You replied and he nodded. You knew that their relationship was kind of rocky.
"Well this is nice, but since we don't have classes I'm going to run." Takeru said, just as he was about to leave you wrapped your fingers around his arm.
"We're going to practice, you're part of this team, you must practice." You said smiling. Although you didn't have a team and you didn't want to trust a team of people you didn't know, you still wanted to watch them practice.
"Are you going to join us?" A voice said, you turned your head and noticed that is was Ayumu.
"I want to see how you guys train so I'll probably just watch but I'll be there to encourage you as well." Everybody smiled, even Takeru.
Everybody changed into their running clothes before heading out to the track. Heath ordered them all to run around the track 5 times for a warm up. You walked over to Sakurai, who had a stopwatch.
"Hey Sakurai, so what sort of training do you guys do?" You asked, watching the rest of the team run.
"(F/N), call me Nana," You nodded, "Well we make them practice their obstacles like how fast they can get over it and how quickly they can recover. We also focus on the part that includes me the most, which is the countdown and how the runners connect."
"Well that sounds like a solid training program." Nana nodded. Although it was a warm up, Nana was still timing each lap and then making an average out of it for each runner. She was truly amazing, you thought to yourself.
"Yo (F/N), want to join us?" Heath asked from the track as he took a swig from his water bottle.
"What you guys going to do now?" You replied, walking over to see him.
"Well I was actually thinking of doing a 3 v 3, you being to anchor of course." Your eyes furrowed in confusion.
"But there are 7 of us."
"Ayumu won't be taking part, he wanted to practice on the obstacles." You nodded before pulling off the hoodie that you had been wearing.
"What's the team?" You asked. Heath held up a finger to tell you to wait.
"Gather round guys," After everybody was stood around Heath he continued," Today for something special we're going to be doing a 3 v 3, but with a twist. We're going to do it around the track so it mostly relies on speed-"
"What's the teams?" Riku interrupted making Heath mad. You laughed slightly causing him to glare a you.
"On one team is Riku as Starter, Fujiwara as Anchor and Hozumi. On another team will be me as Starter, (F/N) as Anchor and Kyosuke." You smiled, getting excited to run with your friends again.
"Sakurai is the only Relationer we have, Ayumu should be doing it for your team Heath." Kyosuke just smiled when Hozumi spoke up.
"It's fine, we won't need one." Heath and you said in unison.
"You're just getting cocky now." Takeru said, very out of character.
"Not cocky, just confident," You replied," No offense to Nana but Relationers always mess up our timing no matter how many times we practiced. We know each other too well." Nana didn't seem to be paying attention, she was too busy writing down something.
"Anyway it's the track, you can see your team so it's easier to see how long it will be until the takeover zone." Hozumi looked so confused but you didn't blame him, it took you a while to understand it.
"Ok everybody on the track," Nana said from the side, after handing out the ear pieces," So we will do 4 laps around the track so recreate the length of a single person's stride. The new runner will go onto the track after the previous runner has completed the first 2 laps. The takeover zone will be the curve. As Heath and (F/N) have said, I will be doing the relation for Takeru's team. Have fun guys!" She is so adorable, you thought to yourself. She wanted the team to do the best that they could. Heath went to the track and got to the starting place beside Riku. It was time for you to see the speed that Tomoe's little brother possessed. The whistle was blown and both of the Starters got off to a good start. You noticed that Riku had started really quickly, hopefully he could stay that speed through the whole 4 laps. Heath was steadily catching up to Riku but he was maintaining a good pace.
It remained the same throughout the first 3 laps, with Kyosuke and Hozumi getting on the track when the 2nd lap ended. Heath was right beside Riku at this point. You started to count down in your head before Kyosuke should start running and once you hit 0, he shot off like a bullet and he made it to the takeover zone before they connected perfectly. Heath slowed down and quickly got off the track to walk over to you. Ayumu had a few water bottles that he had given out to Heath and Riku. You watched Hozumi run against Kyosuke and you smiled. Hozumi did a good job of keeping up with Kyosuke. You were so engrossed in the race that you didn't even realise that you should've been on the race. The 3rd lap had ended and they were both starting their 4th. Kyosuke had started pulling ahead slightly. You got onto the track and got down into your starting position. You could faintly hear Nana through Takeru's earpiece, counting him down. Although Kyosuke was ahead you didn't start running before Takeru.
