Today is track tryouts. I know I will get in. Like every year. I was at the starting line waiting to go.

"Ready? On your marks! Get set! GO!" The man announced. Everyone took off running. I bolted in front of them. I passed the mark. 1 minute for one lap, 2 minutes for the second lap, 3 minutes for the third lap and finally 4 minutes for the forth lap. It beat my record for last year, 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

"Good job Maddie!" My friend Brooke cheered. I high fived her.  It was awesome to have a friend like her. She was a loving but funky person at the same time. Her auburn brown hair sparkled in the sunlight. She had blue clips that hung from both of her pony tails. At the end of her hair, which hung at her waist, was dyed in a rainbow color. She wore a black tee-shirt and grey leggings that had puppies all over it. Her shoes were blue with rainbow laces. I had wavy cherry red hair that went to my shoulders. I wore a maroon colored shirt with  an aqua diamond in the center of it. I wore navy blue jeans with a brown belt. Of course, I wore my lime green and grape purple headphones. I wear my headphones all the time. I was shorter than Brooke. I was only 5 feet, while she was 5 feet 6 inches tall.

"Will Maddison L.  Jaketon come here?" The  new track coach said, staring at me. I walked over to where she was standing. She looked like she was 20 or so.

"Um. I am..." Before I could finish she interrupted.

" Stay and help clean up. Ok? Ok." The coach said shoving me a clipboard and running off.

"Finally." I breathed to myself. The track was cleaned up, but it was also dark. I started to walk home, turning on some music. I looked at the road and sighed. It was year 2065. The whole world was fighting against each other and the U.S. is losing. No teaming this time. Just losing to the entire world. I continued to trod on. I knew my brother would never pick me up. Oh how mean he is. I just hope he is not rummaging through my room looking for stuff to trash. And mom? She will never get the car away from my brother, Brian. I kicked a rock with fury behind it. Why was he so mean? He always ruined her life one way or another.  He was mean ever since dad left. Dad had to go to war. I was five when he left, but Brian was 9 years old. Now I am 15 and he is 19. I had to live like this for ten years.

"Are you Maddison L. Jaketon?" a gruff voice behind me said. I turned down the volume on my headphones.

"Do I need to ask again? Are you Maddison L. Jaketon?!" The voice asked again.

"Who are you?" I shot back, sounding more scared than I wanted. I turned around. The owner of the voice was a guy a foot taller than me. I couldn't see very well in the dark, but I was sure he was holding something. A clipboard? No. A taser? No. What was he holding?

"It is her. Knock her out Z." He replied. Then everything went black. Pitch black.
