A Salty Start

???'s POV

I swam around the beaches of Lilycove City. The bright, crescent moon hung in the beautiful night sky, casting shimmers  on the magnificent blue ocean. All the citizens were inside, and the fishermen were asleep. I was finally, completely alone.

My name is Captain Drake, and I'm a solo pirate who wanders the seas. I may be a self proclaimed captain, but I'm a strong independent mermaid who doesn't take shit from anyone!!! Excuse my poor grammar and such... I'm a simple mermaid. I'm from the Johto region, born and raised in the Lake of Rage. Now the world was free for me to explore. I finally made it to the Hoenn region. I huffed to myself. 300 miles of open water, finally crossed.

My stomach grumbled loudly. I had to find something to eat. Hunger gnawed at my insides. I sadly didn't have any money with me, so some local wildlife would have to do. (Usually, I'd fight some drunk trainers as myself, and take the winnings after they passed out, but it was so late at night, all the bars along the beach were closed)

I began searching for food. I'd be happy with anything except a tentacool. I'd had enough tentacool on the way here to last any self respecting mermaid a lifetime. If I saw another one of those jellyfish like creatures again, I might just lose it.

After enough searching on the ocean floor for some shelder, I gave up on having any clam for a meal. Wasn't there any food anywhere??? Finally,  wingull landed on the surface of the water. I swam up as quickly as I could to make a meal of it.

Unfortunately for me, while I was dining on the seagull, I failed to notice the submarine. It hit me with its thick metal hull, shoving me roughly to the side. I nearly fainted, but clung to consciousness due to sheer anger. Who did these people think they were?! Why would humans even take a submarine this close to the shore?! These particular ones must be a special kind of stupid.

I sunk below the surface, deciding to follow this submarine. I had to exact revenge in one way or another. Hopefully, nobody saw me. The key word: hopefully. While Im overusing this word, may I add that I hope that this team of humans is small? I also hope that they don't go anywhere too far, because I'm exhausted as it is. I also hoped that this whole "hitting innocent sea creatures with large hunks of metal" wasn't a normal occurance in this foreign land.

The submarine turned and was heading straight for the cliff face. Was this a suicide mission??? The earthy wall shook, and opened up into a cave mouth. I now had the sneaking suspicion that what I was observing wasn't entirely legal. The submarine entered the oddly illuminated cave, and the walls started to close. I quickly swam in, trying not to get my fins crushed into the metal walls. I decided  to stay under water, and tried to listen to the humans, considering I was now trapped until the next time this sub left.

"Welcome the base, men. Get to your stations, and switch positions with the others, so they can rest before we put our plan into action! " A rough voice barked orders. I could hear many footsteps running off in several different directions. I put my finned hands over my ears, trying to block out the many echoes.

The echoes finally faded, and I could think clearly again. If the man's employees were supposed to rest, didn't that mean there had to be food? Freshly cooked, sophisticated, human food sounded amazing after my several weeks at sea! My stomach growled loudly again, agreeing with my plan. If I could get on the dry land inside this cavern, dry off, and regrow my legs, I could blend in as a human. Then, I could steal some food! I wouldn't even need money. How could this plan go wrong?

Apparently, that was a terrible question to ask.

I waited for what seemed like forever, just to make sure the coast was clear. Every moment felt like agony, knowing that there was food, somewhere nearby. I couldn't take it anymore. I poked my head out of the water.
