You padded out of the warriors den, your F/C pelt on end. There had been a badger scent in the territory, and last night Firestar had asked you to find it with Dovewing and Lionblaze. Jealousy burned through your pelt as you realized how friendly the two were together, and your eats flattened in shame. Who were you to judge who Dovewing hung out with? You weren't as good as Bumblestripe or Lionblaze, so all you could do was try your best.
Your E/C eyes instantly searched the camp for Dovewing, hoping to chat with her before Lionblaze woke up and you had to go find the badger. Your eyes lit up with delight as she padded out of the elders den; alone. You instantly padded over to her...but mouse-dung! Bumblestripe beat you to her. You hiss in frustration and go take a squirrel off the Fresh-kill pile, eating quietly, ears flattened once more. Just as you polished off your mouse, you heard someone call your name.
"Y/N! You ready for that patrol?" Dovewing padded towards you, and your heart gave a flutter. You smile and purr, "Yeah. You?" and she nodded. "Hey Dovewing, I wanted to tell you something." you mumble, embarrassed. She smiled and asks, "Yeah?" "So I-" "Hey Dovewing! Y/N!" Lionblaze pads up, and you look away grumpily. "Ready for the patrol?" Lionblaze asks, grinning. "Yeah." you mutter and start padding out of camp, tail hanging low.
As the three of you padded through the forest, you wait for an opportunity to tell Dovewing your feelings. But she and Lionblaze leapt whispering to each other. About what though? *Probably their future kits* You can't help but think bitterly.
"The scent is strong here." Lionblaze says, scenting the air. "I think I hear it nearby." Dovewing perked her ears up, eyes scanning the undergrowth. You stay silent, thinking, *guess im not special enough to be here, with the best fighter and hunter into the history of the clan!* you hiss. "What's wrong
Y/N?" Dovewing asks, coming up beside out and brushing her pelt with yours. "nothing." you turn away, and instantly feel guilty and turn back to her to say, "Its just I've been trying to tell you that-" A loud roar cut you off and you turn in that direction.
*Another distraction? Really Starclan?!* you think angrily, but then all your thoughts leave your head as a huge badger lumbers towards you and your patrol. "Aim for its-Y/N!" Lionblaze yowled as you charged at the badger head-on, anger fueling you. *They think im weak and pathetic don't they?* You think, slashing at the badger's eyes and nose. You didn't see the huge black-and-white paw until it was too late, and you were knocked into a tree, collapsing on the ground. "Y/N!" Dovewing leapt in front of you as you tried to stand, protecting you from the badger as it swiped again, this time clawing her ear and her chest. Dovewing let out a cry of pain, but her green eyes some with determination as it knocked her to the ground, aiming at you.
"Dovewing!" You felt guilty instantly. *Stupid! How could you just leapt at the badger? Now Dovewing is hurt bad might die!* you think frantically, as you and Lionblaze try to hack and slash at the badger, doing tag-team. Finally, you two manage to chase it off, and you instantly race to Dovewing, who stirred as you came closer. "Is everyone else okay?"Dovewing asks, as she stands with your help. "Yeah. How about you?" your worried tone makes her smile a bit.
"Well im not dead." Dovewing grinned and you both laughed. "And yes." she says as they both followed Lionblaze. "yes what?" you ask, confused. "I'll be your mate." she purred, and you felt your heart swell up so much you thought it might burst out your chest. "I love you Dovewing." you licked her ear affectionately. "I love you too." she purrs.
