I feel my body falling forward. I quickly move a foot in front of my body stabilizing my weight. I shake my head, hair falling in front of my face. I brush the hair from my eyes looking down at Nox. I was alarmed to see a small girl kneeling next to him.
"Is it okay if I pet your dog Miss?" She stares up at me with big brown eyes. She looked to young to be walking around the park alone. I glance around looking for her mother, not seeing anyone suiting.
She tilts her head at me, "Is it okay?" I look down at her and nod my head at her she giggles a little and starts to run her fingers through Nox's fur.
"But may I ask, where's your mother? Is she with you?" She was awfully pretty for such a little kid. Her skin was a light tan. Her hair tumbled in loose curls onto her collarbones. I assumed she was about nine but her big eyes made her look even younger.
"Oh she's not here, but that doesn't matter," she responds, still running her fingers through Nox's fur.
"Oh but I think it does. Can you tell me where you live and i'll take you back home," I tell her.
She stands up and retorts, "Okay but I don't need to you know." She tells me her address and grab her shoulder and lead her out of the park.
"What's your name?" I ask her.
"Verity Evans," she responds to me."What's yours?"
"Fair question, I'm Sedona Mays."
" That's a really pretty name," she looks up at with a open mouth and big eyes.
"Verity is quite interesting. Also how old are you?"
She furrowed her brow, frowning slightly, " Not old enough to be in the park alone. I'm nine anyway. I have a question for you again, what was that whole freezing thing about? You look terrified when you stopped dead."
"You saw that?" I ask her tentatively. She nods her head. "I don't know really, but there's been a ringing in my ears. But I don't need a nine year old to tell me that can't happen."
She looks at me her big eyes like disks. " I know exactly what you're talking about," she says quietly. "It happened to my dad. He was complaining about a ringing in his ears. It was one night that I heard something walking through our apartment. I didn't know who it was, so looked out of my room and saw a thing on all fours. I thought it looked really cool. But the next morning my dad was found dead in the alley next to our apartment. The police thought it was because of drugs because there was something running through his system. The police said they can't tell us what drug it was. But why wouldn't they be able too? So I think the four legged man killed him."
Absolute horror runs through my bones. The fact that this girls saw this thing and thought it was cool was one thing. But that her father had the same thing as me and was found dead in an alley was something I didn't want to think about.
"Hey I don't think you're crazy. but maybe you think I am now," Verity said to me. I shook my head, my hands shaking. I did but how could I tell that to a sweet young girl. Okay, maybe not that sweet.
"I don't think you're crazy. I just don't believe in anything supernatural," I say back to her.
My feet lazily move with her until I realize her feet aren't by mine. "Were here you know," she yells to me. I turn around and look at her.
"Okay I asume you can get inside on your own, so i'm going to go now," I turn on my heel and start to walk.
"Bye, Sedona Mays!" she yells to my back. I don't look back. There's something twisted with her and I don't want anything to do with little Verity Evans. I need to get back to my apartment. I had to think. I look up at the sky oblivious to the people around me. Grey clouds were floating of in the distance. A storm, great, that will really set the mood for when I get murdered in my own house. Sedona, stop you're not going to die. That girl was crazy just go home.
