I walked into the bustling school building with Jazz. She was a freshman this year and I was a sophomore. I know the age gap seems impossible, but she's only my half sister. My mom got knocked up with Jazz shortly after she had me. Jazz's dad left just like mine did.

Jazz was nervous and grabbed my hand,"Kaid we still have lunch together right?"

"Of course Jazz", I ruffled her short blonde hair.

I escorted my sister to her first class then went off to find mine. I had English first period. I sat in a seat in the back and waited for roll call.

The bell rang and the teacher walked in. She was a short, middle- aged women with glasses and brown hair. The teacher set her stuff on the desk and began to speak.

"I am Mrs. Adam. I will take roll and then we will move to our assigned seats."

I sat back, waiting for her to get to my name.

"Ms. Kaid Sayer", she called out.

My jaw clenched, "it's Mx.Kaid," I sighed.

"Mx?" Mrs. Adam questioned.

"Yes, it is the correct term for non binary people."

"Very well then, Mx.Kaid", she made sure to emphasize the mx and moved on to the next kids.

We were placed in a seating chart, luckily I didn't have to move. The hour went by quickly as I stared out the window.

My next two classes before lunch went exactly like first period. Teachers mis-gendering, students talking and whispering, and lots of looking out the windows.

Finally it was lunch. I walked around a bit until I found Jazz. She was sitting alone on a bench, eating her peanutbutter sandwich and reading. I sat next to her. Jazz looked up and smiled.

"How do you like high school so far?" I poked her nose as she stuck out her tongue.

"It's a lot more high school and a little less musical", she laughed a bit at her joke and bit into her sandwich We spent the rest of lunch in silence.

Soon the school day was over and we were at home. After helping Jazz make diner. Both of us sat on the couch and waited for mom.

"There is my favourite daughter and my favourite child person", Momma said as she walked into the apartment. Jazz and I hugged her.

We all sat down to eat. Diner at the table was uneventful. Mom was on her phone, Jazz was reading and I was too busy stuffing my face to care. After we ate, I cleaned up a bit and went off to bed.
