The thing I always find myself constantly geeking over is Fairy Tales because they show me important lessons through creativity and imagination. My love for Fairy Tales probably started at the age of two when my parents read them to me before bed. During the daytime my babysitter would also play all the Disney princesses movies. As I got older I started researching Fairy Tales. To my surprise I discovered that there are darker versions of these Fairy Tales Written by The Grimm Brothers, Hans Anderson and Lewis Carroll. Most of these Versions did not have happy endings including Cinderella,Hansel and Gretel,Rapunzel,Snow White and The Little Mermaid. It made me so intrigued wondering how two versions of the same story could be so different. For example in the story The Little Mermaid, Ariel loses her voice and ends up getting her happy ending. However in the original story she turns into a human but every time she takes a step it felt like walking on broken glass. Eventually, the prince marries the sea witch causing Ariel to turn to dust. All this was fascinating to me, It taught me that all these original stories have harsh endings so kids would know the difference between right and wrong.
I also love the adaptation of Fairy Tales in the show Once Upon A Time . It's about a young woman with a difficult past who gets drawn to a small town where all the Fairy Tale stories are somehow linked together. An example would be the character Rumplestiltskin who is actually the beast in the story Beauty and the Beast. Which makes this one of my favourite shows due to the magical , fantasy aspect and lots of relatable characters. This inspired me to contemplate on writing my own version or at least thinking of a new one. It also encouraged me to read more Fairy Tales with my tutor and write a short essay on Why Fairy Tales Should Stay Their Original Form.
By far Fairy Tales are the most intriguing stories to read.I love being able to geek out about them because it helps me stay in touch with my imagination.
