"Kelli, get up. Your late for school and I can't drive you!" my mom screams up the stairs.

"Ok mom!," I yell and pull on a skirt, a t-shirt, and some sneakers.

I run down stairs and brush my hair, followed by my teeth and sprint outside just to see the bus speeding away. Well, better start walking.

Great it's the second week of school and I already missed the bus. At least the school isn't that far away. But I'll definitely be late.

---------------------------------------------

There are almost no cars on the road today so it's very quiet. I live in a small town so there aren't that many houses. Just lots of cornfields and meadows. Every once and a while a farm or two.

A gust of wind whips my long black hair into my face and causes me to shiver. Why is it so cold? It's September. I pull my purple sweatshirt out of my Nike duffel bag and slip it on, though it helps very little.

And then I hear a twig snap. Deer probably. But I can't help but feel like it's not. Like it's a person following me, watching me. Then I hear something in the cornfield and start running. it could just be a raccoon or something, but I'm really scared.

Stomp. Stomp. Footsteps. Oh my gosh. I speed up as the adrenalin kicks in. My head is spinning as sweat drips down my face and my legs feel as if they can't support my body. As my breaths become even more uneven I hear it. A gunshot. An unbearable pain is shooting through my leg and I feel sweat? Blood? Both? trickling down onto the pavement. My head is now spinning and my blue eyes start to close as the darkness takes over.
