"Just please, Sarah, believe me when I say it. I didn't have anything to do with that money, alright! I wouldn't do something stupid like that and you know I wouldn't."
I heard my mother's feet make contact with the tile. "I certainly hoped that you wouldn't because you wouldn't be just ruining our lives, you would be ruining our childrens' as well."
My mother's footsteps came closer to the doorway. I vaulted away from the wall and over the back of the couch before lying down and pulling the blanket over my body. I closed my eyes shut and tried to slow my breathing down as much as possible.
"Sarah, we need to talk about this more," my father called after her. "You can't just walk away from me."
My mother's footsteps sounded closer to me and I heard her feet creak on the stairs as she climbed up them.
I opened my eyes and pulled the blanket off of me, hurrying up the stairs before my father decided to walk into the room. I couldn't risk getting grounded for a longer time. Garrett still needed me and Josh and I had to hang out together for the project in sociology.
Quietly, I reached the top of the stairs to see none other than my own mother standing there waiting for me. "Nice to see that you are awake, Chicago."
I smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I actually fell asleep on the couch in the living room and I just now woke up. I'll go on to bed."
I hurried passed her, but her voice stopped me as I reached the door to my room. "Chicago, I know you overheard your father and I, but I promise you, everything's okay. Everything will work out, but until then, don't tell any of your siblings."
"Yes, ma'am," I responded. "I'll forget that I heard anything."

Hugo ambushed me the moment I entered my room and I had to come up with a fake story to satisfy him. The moment I woke up the next morning and automatically texted Josh from Hugo's phone.
Joshua, it's Chicago and this is my brother's phone. But can you do me a favor? On your way to school the morning, stop by here, please. It's important.
I hid Hugo's phone under my body as Summer quietly came into my room. "Chicago, are you feeling well enough to go to school today?"
Normally, I was the only Beaumont child that got up on time. All my siblings preferred to wait until Summer threatened to pour cold water on them before getting up, so when I broke away from my normal routine, our housekeeper got concerned. That meant my plan was working perfectly.
"I have a headache and I really didn't much sleep last night either." To emphasize my story, a gigantic yawn escaped my mouth.
Summer crossed her arms, a sympathetic look on her face. "Are you sure you can't go to school? Noah told me that everyone is preparing for the SATs."
"I don't miss school very often, Summer. I can afford to miss one day. Besides, I can figure out what I missed without much difficulty. Please let me stay home."
The brunette lady nodded. "Okay, you can stay home today, but I have a few things I need to do, so I won't be back home until around one or so."
I had to try to not smile to myself. "Okay, that's fine, Summer. I don't plan to get up at all today anyway."
She smiled before walking out of my room and shutting the door behind her. A few minutes later, I heard her leave along with all my siblings were still attending school. Denahi, Micah, and Christian were planning on to see some basketball game today and they had already left, which was a very good thing for me. Now, all I had to do was wait for Josh to show up.
Ten minutes later, I was downstairs, letting Joshua Dun into my house. His eyes widened as he surveyed how big it was and confusion covered his face as he also noticed that I was still my pajamas.
"Nice Batman pajamas," he snorted. "Wouldn't really peg you for the Superhero type."
I rolled my eyes. "You learn something new about me everyday. Also, I am pumped for the Batman vs Superman movie."
I led him into my kitchen and he took a seat at the island. "So do you want to tell me why am I here and why you are still in your superhero pajamas? I'm kinda confused."
"Well, my dear Joshua," I began, reaching up on my tippy toes to grab a box of Fruit Loops off the top shelf of my cabinet. "Since you are totally in fascinated with me, I'm requesting your help with something." I pulled my T-shirt down as I realized that it had rode up as I grabbed the cereal box.
"Okay, my dear Chicago, one, I'm afraid to know what I have to help with. Two, I never had I was fascinated with you. I said you interest me."
I shrugged, pulling a bowl out of one of the cabinets. "Same thing. However, since you seem to be the type that likes to break rules, I want you to help me with something and the first step is to not go to school. I played sick and my housekeeper called the school for me."
Josh's eyes widened. "One, you want me to skip school for something you won't even tell me about? Two, I have no one to call in for me. And finally three, you have a housekeeper?"
I nodded. "I'll call you in and pretend to be your mom. It's not that hard really. Also, Summer is considered family more than a housekeeper."
Josh seemed to ponder the idea over in his head for a moment before agreeing as I gave him a pointed stare. "Fine, I'll skip school and help you with whatever you need me to do. That would be what exactly?"
I grinned. "You are helping me break into my father's office. First, cereal?"
A/N: I bought an emoji pillow and beanbag chair today and I'm slightly ashamed.
