Parallel Universe

Intro

"Alice! Did you see the news?" My sister, Mel asked.
"Um... No. Why?"
"Once again, two more people in space got lost."
"So?"
"Ugh! What I'm saying, is that you shouldn't be going into space if people are getting lost!!"
"Mel, I'll be fine!"
"Alice! It isn't a good idea. Listen to me for once!!"
"Mel! Stop, I will be fine, calm down. Plus, I'm going to go tomorrow, it's not like I'm going today!"
"Humph. You're leaving really soon, and I don't want you to go. But whatever." Mel walked away, obviously defeated. I don't see why she's so worried about me. Is she the one going into space, no. I trained for this for awhile now, so I will be fine.

The next morning

"Mom, Dad, Mel! I'm leaving!"
"Sweety! We will miss you so much! Are you sure about this?" My mom asked me.
"Yes, we will miss you bunches! Be careful!" My dad said before I could day anything.
"Y--" I started.
"Alice! Wahhhh! Don't go!!!" Mel whined.
"You baby! I'll be fine! I'll miss you so much though. And of course, you guys too!" I gestured to my parents after I joked around with Mel. I hugged each of my family members before I left to go into my car and head to my work place, where I will head I to space.

After my long, 'fabulous' Taylor Swift sing along drive, I arrive at my work place. 2:50. Crap! I'm late! Ten minutes. I hope they don't realize.

I slowly creep in to try conceal my lateness.
"Alice!" Uh oh, my boss noticed. Great, just great. "Ahem. Alice, tell me. What time is it right now?
"Um... Like 3:00. Heh... Sorry, sir."
"Alice, I think I told you to come in at 2:45 am I wrong?" His stone cold eyes were hard to meet.
"You are correct, sir."
"So, tell me, why are you late?"
"Um... Maybe because I wanted to say goodbye to my family, ever thought of that? Get off my case already!" Wait, did I say that out loud?
"What?" His lips suddenly turned into a grin. What the heck! "Now that's what I want to hear! Standing up for yourself! But, just so we are clear, Alice, don't talk back to me again, or we might have some problems." What the heck! Does he think he can just embarrass me like that? I was so shocked I couldn't say anything. "Hurry up Alice, and the others, space awaits us."
