My name is Braden. Braden Ellot. This story is about the summer, and the girl that changed my life.

I've always hated the ever living thought of love, relationships in general were enough to make me cringe. Like, I lean more towards realism to be honest. I have just never met someone who made me as happy as couple on TV or in the movies. Cliché to the max. Or at least that is what I used to think.

I didn't hear much about her, just a few words from my best friend Hazel. She talked about her during our whole lunch period on Wednesday. That was yesterday, and today was the day she is going to move in with Hazel. Apparently her parents went on a road trip and were caught in a landslide, Hazel swears that it is impossible that her parents are still alive, but she keeps saying that the move is only temporary until they find them. I feel kinda bad. Her name is Amina. She is in the same grade as us, and her and Hazel used to go to school together until Hazel moved away.

I mean, she is moving to Pensacola Florida and its SUMMER. She should be at least a tiny bit excited, but as I stand here staring at Hazel hug her, while her arms are to her side limply. I'm not so sure she cares where she is. I stand awkwardly, clear my throat a little bit and look to my side at all of our other friends. They all have their heads bowed a little, seemingly as a respect thing for Amina. She lifts her head from Hazels shoulder, and looks me dead in the eye after scanning the rest of us. I almost bow my head just like everyone else but something stops me. At first I'm not sure what it is until I stare her straight in the eyes. Blue as the sky, with sea green speckles dotting every little space. The most mesmerizing thing I have ever seen. She stares at me with the saddest eyes, a tear streaming down her face and I look away. Bowing my head respectfully.

"Amina I'm so sorry." Hazel spoke to her in such a soft voice, it was surprising.

"There is nothing to be sorry for, they are still alive Hazel. I know they are." Amina pulled away slowly and looked up at us.

I look to my side to see that my friends had looked up and we're giving a reassuring look. I look up quickly and Amina is staring at me again. I look at Hazel, not wanting to look at Amina any longer. Hazel smiles,

"These are my friends, and yours too. You have met one of them online before in a group." Hazel points to Ash, he is two people down from me. "He is the corny one, remember?"

"And then there is..." Hazel trailed off, introducing everyone. But Amina wasn't paying any attention to anyone else, she was looking me dead in the eyes. I shifted uncomfortably and smiled a bit. She didn't smile back so I quit smiling. She looked away and started paying attention.

"...Don't trust him with sharp things." Hazel laughed a bit and turned to Chance, a girl right next me, and my best friend #2. "This is Chance, I hope you two can become really good friends."

Amina cleared her throat and pointed at me, "Who is he?"

Hazel glanced at me and began, "Oh, this is Braden. Don't mind him he stares, he is our age."

Amina's gaze softened a bit. I feel like smacking myself. But the bell rings and I run off to my class before even saying hello to Amina. Her stare was too intense.

I normally do my homework in my room but today I decided to sit on the beach, it's pretty nice outside. There isn't a breeze luckily, that would of been bad news for my algebra homework. Algebra, the worst subject EVER. Of course I still participate and do my homework but that doesn't mean I can't hate it. I mean I especially hate graphi-

"Hey."

I jump a little and turn around quickly. Amina stares at me intensely before cracking a tiny smile. I smile back,

"Hi, sorry you scared the ever living hell out of me." I laughed a little bit before brushing sand off my homework.

"Am I interrupting you?" She stopped smiling and backed up a little as if she was going to leave.

"No, no sorry." I pick up my papers and take a deep breath. "You need something? I have a extra toothbru-"

"No I just wanted to say hi. You kinda ran off at school, didn't really get to talk to you." She turned and started walking back down the beach to Hazels house. I jumped up and jogged to catch up with her.

"So uh where did you come from?"

"Hell. No, I'm just joking. I came here from Junction City, Kansas." She smiled a little. I'm guessing she liked it there.

"Is it fun there, Dorothy?" I chuckled a little before she stopped, turned and punched me in the arm.

"Don't call me Dorothy, but no it is not fun. I hate it." She laughed a little laugh and it was kinda cute. She stopped in front of Dani's house and opened the door. She walked in and closed the door without even saying good bye. I stare in confusion and then continue to walk back to my house to finish my Algebra homework.
