~*~*~*~*~* Chapter 2

The beeping sound she had been listening to sped up slightly as she began to focus on her surroundings, though she couldn’t make out anything, her eyes were still closed and she found it very difficult to move or open them. The area was a little drafty, holding a slight chill to it. She could hear a swooshing sound again only this time it sounded like fabric. Her ears pricked up at voices, a deep husky voice and a melodic womanly voice in a hushed conversation. The stamping of plodding feet protruded all around and several more beeping sounds seems to be contending for superiority over the one she first heard.

“Dr. Amyl to room 210, Dr. Amyl to room 210” A hospital, she was in the hospital. Her heart jumped, both in excitement and fear as she didn’t know how she got here, all she remembered was falling through the trees and then something hitting the back of her head making her fall. She began to panic as the memories came flooding back about why she had been in the woods, and the beeping sound nearest to her sounded an alarm. Her breathing hurt her body as it rasped past her lips, her terrified state fizzing out the things around her as she tried to force her body to move.

Hands began to touch her and her body reacted, coming alive like hot wire downed from an electric pole. Her arms acted on instinct making them lash out, but her legs were held down by something and it was preventing her from kicking out as well. She cried out in terror as a sharp pain hit her shoulder but still she couldn’t open her eyes, her sobs broke free from her chest as a darker darkness descended upon her mind. Her arms felt so heavy, and her terrified will to get away broke as the darkness moved over her mind, her body stilling on its own accord as she tried so hard to fight it, so hard. With one last broken sob, her body gave out as well as her mind.

Grayson’s concern for the woman in the bed grew tenfold at her reaction to waking up. What kind of hell had she been through to have terror written over her face like she did? Her beautiful eyes looked vacant when she stared straight ahead, almost as if she didn’t see anyone of the 10 people that surrounded her bed trying to help her. Her hair was tied back, his doing after they cleaned the wound on her head and stitched it up. He didn’t want her accidently snagging or pulling her hair so he braided it with the help of a nurse.

“Well, that will keep her out for a little while there Grayson, why don’t you sit by her and watch her just in case?” Old man Tucker said as he turned to a nurse and spoke to her about drug regiments. Tucker was one of the best Doctors in town and happened to be Grayson’s landlord and pretty good friend. When Grayson had barged in the hospital with the woman in his arms pretty much all things stopped as he barked out orders only for Doc Tucker to come over and tell him what to do. The old man had balls that much he could say for sure, and he hadn’t been afraid to tell him what was what while he stayed in this town.

“How’s her condition Tuck?” Grayson asked as he tucked a chair next to her bed when the nurse checking her moved out of the way. He grabbed her hand careful of the IV protruding from her hand, and looked back at Tucker.

Doc Tucker smiled at him though it was laced with concern. “It’s not the best Gray; she’s in bad shape, probably from prolonged abuse and being malnourished. Her bones are very brittle and the marks all over her body suggest some pretty bad things have happened to her over the last year. Her heart is palpitating out of sync from the exertion and with the knock to the head, several as far as I can tell...” Old man Tuck shook his head sadly “It’s not looking good for her. She will live, don't worry about that, but at the cost" he shook his head "I’m not sure she would want to. For one, I believe she has lost her sight judging by the way her eyes looked when she woke up” The man went back to his paper to write something down.
