~*~*~ Prologue ~*~*~

Two years earlier...

"I do not want to go with you," Kevin yelled at his parents who were irritating him to no end. They were demanding he go with them to visit some friends. The other pack lived about two hours from where they were. Kevin was not having it. His friends Logan, Rene, and Ricky were meeting up with friends they'd met in town. They'd all planned to go to the movies with them. Now, his parents were trying to change his plans.

"Honey, they have a daughter we want you to meet, she is an adorable girl." Judging from his mother's over-enthusiastic words, he knew what her words meant. That alone was reason enough not to go tonight.

"Translation. The girl is a boring dog!" He yelled finally having had enough. The words earned him a chuckle from his father.

"I do not think she is a dog son, but she is a wolf. Well, she will be a wolf after tonight." Kevin's father said in a matter of fact way. That only made his mothers' smile widen.

A sigh of frustration left him before clarifying things. "What I meant to say was that most likely; the girl is ugly. When people say, any girl is sweet, or nice or adorable. It always means that the girl lacks in the looks department."

"Kevin Forman, we did not teach you to behave in that manner. One should not judge by looks alone. Accompany us, son." He did not understand why they were so insistent on him meeting this girl? The girl was shifting for the first time today. Why on earth would they want strangers there in the first place?

"Son, you are making this difficult for us." His fathers' voice was calm, yet the look in his eyes said otherwise. After what seemed like hours later, his fathers' fist tightened. "Fine, if you do not want to go, it is your decision." The words were spoken through clenched teeth as he stomped away.

Kevin smirked at his retreating form. "Good, I do not have to go with them now." He muttered to himself. It had been a selfish and childish way to behave, but the results had been in his favor.

Later that night, Mel and Kelly Forman arrived at their friend's house.

"I am so sorry our son could not come tonight. We were not aware that he had made other plans." Kelly said feeling very embarrassed. She and Victoria had been friends for many years, and their wish was for their kids to be soul mates. She took comfort thinking that Kevin would have the opportunity to meet her another day.

"Don't worry Kelly; there will be other times for a visit. It will be good because we can run there with our daughter. Now come, she is almost ready for the shift?" Her friend gushed excitedly for her daughter. "My little girl will be a beautiful wolf. Of that, there is no doubt."

Kelly smiled as he looked at the picture on the mantel and thought. 'Kevin has no Idea what he is missing.' The girl was a knockout. She was petite with brown hair and soft brown eyes. She could only imagine how beautiful her wolf was going to be. A smile stretched her lips at the thought and Mel sent her a matching smile from across the room. Then his eyes turned to look at the beautiful girl walking down the stairs.

She did not need to feel jealousy, as a person it was normal to appreciate a good-looking woman or man. They were married, not dead, as wolves on the other hand. They were unable to admire or feel sexual arousal for anyone other than their mate. It safeguarded future lineage and a peaceful existence.

Later that night when the time arrived, all were escorted outside. Poor Destiny looked scared. It was distressing to hear her screams as the breaking of bones began. Mel held his wife in his arms as memories of the pain she went through during her shift assailed her. It was a horrible first experience for everyone, but so worth the pain.

A gasp was heard from all when the transformation was complete, for a pure wolf stood before them. The wolf was petite and dainty, sporting luscious snow white fur. She was utterly breathtaking. 'Kevin, you idiot. What we have witnessed can't even be put into words.' Mel mind links his stubborn son.

'Yeah, yeah dad, whatever.' He grumbled back before disconnecting the link. With all the excitement around them, Mel decided it was time to say goodbye to their friends. There was so much they had to teach their daughter. Plus, they had to take Destiny out for her first hunt. On the way home, Kelly and Mel had a conversation about what having this white magic wolf would mean for their whole species.

They were lost in thought and failed to see the big semi-truck careening towards them. Mel only had time to mind-link Kevin and tell him they loved him before they smashed into the truck and blew up from the impact. There would be no regenerating from the inferno.
