I awoke to the sun rising through the crack in my curtain. I sit up and remember how much I have to do today. I don't want to do any of it, but it will help further in time, and then I can do what I want, which is to head downtown after the dress fitting. My mother had asked me to stand as planner and junior bridesmaid.
I jumped out of bed and change into a tank-top and long black tights. I slip out of my room and look around. No one besides myself is awake. I grab the apartment key,$5 and slip out. I take the stairs down to the main floor and head downtown to the diner.
It was nice out for a spring day; no clouds and no breeze. I jogged down the street and took a right at Bridge street. I headed down the street and slowed down at the diner. I asked the person at the bar for a water bottle. She turned and grabbed it and asked for $2. I handed her the five dollar bill and took the bottle. I noticed some of the boys from another run showing up.
"Now look at this, not all the women in this city take the bus. See, she runs. How are you Kat?" Austin asked. He was my training coach.
"I'm good. How many did you get this morning to run?" I asked seeing as some had one down the hall.
"11. You got what you owe me?"He asked. I handed him my change. It was just enough to pay off what I owed him for letting me join his training camp. He nodded, and I headed out on my way home.
A young man was coming in as I was leaving. He had a suit on and a laptop in hand and a coffee in another. He looked familiar. I didn't look at him. I just slipped out and took off on my way home.
I knew him now. He worked for Phil, my step-dad to be. He was definitely going to call him now that he seen me without an escort.
When I showed up back at the apartment, Phil was on the phone. He looked at me and pointed to the stool in front of him. I kicked my runners off, and sat down. I was not in trouble, I was home before midnight, and had only left 10 minutes. I sat spinning on the stool and waiting.
Phil handed me a piece of paper. It wrote:
Journalism Place called. You got accepted. You're not in trouble for leaving. I watched you get home and leave for your jog. Just make sure you tell someone before you go or bring me.
Two great things just happened. One was that the journalism class of Essex accepted me as a student this summer, and I was not in trouble. Only problem was that Phil wanted to come with. Phil could out run mostly anyone. He was tall, and fit to the fact, he could have been a model if he wasn't running a clothing company.
I went to get up, but he pointed for me to keep sitting. I waited.
"Yes, thank you. Just leave it in my office. Alright thank you," he hung up his phone and dropped it in his jacket pocket.
"okay, you're not in trouble, but I have a few things for you at my office tomorrow. So, do me a favour and get through the dress fitting and then I'll take you to see what I got for you, okay?" He asked. I nodded and went to my room. I changed into a pair o f light blue jean short shorts and a navy blue tank. I was not planning to go anywhere after the dress fitting.
I come out to see 3 hot teenage men standing men sitting on the stools, and then I remember that those 3 teenage men are my stepbrothers. Daulton was the oldest of the triplet brothers. He could remix a song in just half a day, and have an album done in 3 days. Eric was god at sports. He played all kinds of sports from hockey to soccer, and swimming to cycling. Nick is no genius, but a great cook. He and I baked like crazy. We catered for all sorts of events, from birthday parties to Wedding day celebrations and back. He also cooked dinner almost every night.
When they saw me come out, they all looked and laughed. I looked down, and laughed. My tank was on backwards. I turned it around and grabbed my dress out of the front closet.
I grabbed my heels and put them on. I had to break them in. I was still shorter than my 5foot 6 brothers, but I didn't mind.
I walked around and got my laptop bag ready to do some planning with Phil after the fitting.
"Kat, do you want some help with planning?" asked Daulton.
"Yeah, could you get me my bag, I think I left it on the table. I was behind the counter making lunch.
"Kat, what do you want me to do?"Eric asked.
"Can you run to the lobby and see if there's any mail?" I asked. He didn't have a shirt on, but I don't think anyone would care. He nodded and left wearing socks and sweatpants. Daulton set the bag on the table and put my things in while I finished making myself and the boys lunch.
I grab a$10, my bags and headphones and head to the car.
