The trees were closing in on me... I couldn't breathe... the last of the sunlight was being slowly swallowed up by the dark canopy, and I was falling

"EVE. EVANNA. WAKE. UP."
I jolted awake just as an earsplitting ringing filled my ears. I looked around blearily. Sleepy students, Mr. Black lecturing the students on mythology, the steady ticking of the clock hanging above my head... school? I was at school?
"What the hell Eve?! Since when did u fall asleep in class?"
I blinked and looked over at my friend Chris, who was staring at me in disbelief.
"I fell... asleep?" I murmured, more to myself than anyone.
Chris suddenly sat up and started frantically pointing at his eyes. His eyes? Suddenly it hit me. I grabbed a mirror out from my bag hanging next to me and looked into it.
I swallowed my cry of terror. At first glance everything seemed normal: dark, wavy hair that hung just below my collarbone, and a small and insignificant nose and mouth that many people would often consider pretty if I wasn't scowling all the time. When I opened them again they were their ordinary shade of caramel brown again. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. Chris let out a deep breath beside me too. We sat in tense silence until the bell finally rang and all the students filed out of the dimly lit classroom. When we were a safe distance away from any prying ears, Chris turned to me.
"Red? Since when was RED part of your spectrum?"
"It's NOT." I sighed. My power was getting more and more dangerous by the day, and I had a feeling it would only become worse once I turned 18 tomorrow. My spectrum referred to the different colors that I discovered my eyes could change to. So far I had seen my eyes become light green, a deep blue, and a bright shade of yellow. Each of these colors gave my body a unique ability: green allowed me to heal others, but not myself, with blue I could summon and control water, and when my eyes became yellow I could conduct and harness electricity at will. But recently, I've started to lose control. My eyes would randomly swap between the colors on my spectrum, which would oftentimes lead to me accidentally causing a power outage, or flooding all the bathrooms at school. But red? Red was new... and I had a bad feeling about it...
