Getting out of bed on the first day of school had never been Clary's forte. She didn't dislike school, but she had an extreme aversion to getting up before 10:00 am. But it was not just the nerves of a new year of tests, homework, and inevitable drama that held Clary back this morning. Against her better judgement, Clary had allowed her best friend Simon to drag her into the freshman and transfer welcome program. Clary was not the most social person in the world, as practically anyone who new her could tell you, and it was a testament to how long they had been friends that Clary hauled herself out of bed, pulled on the navy blue shirt reading "Bulldog Welcome Team", and grabbed her backpack on her way out the door to Simon's already waiting car.
"Hey!" called a cheerful Simon from the driver's side of his blue convertible Bug. Still groggy from the early wake up, the only thing Clary could muster was a disgruntled groan before she buckled herself into the passenger seat. After about three minutes of quiet Clary said "I still can't believe I let you talk me into this Simon". "Come on Clary" Simon replied, to cheerfully for the event at hand, "Just think of it as a way to give back to our school". Unwilling to argue with Simon further Clary merely pursed her lips in distaste, threw her unruly red curls into a ponytail, and mumbled something about giving something back to the school that Simon couldn't make out, but in her current mood Simon thought it might be for the best that he couldn't hear what she said.
After ten more minutes of silence, the pair arrived at Idris high and made there way to the gym for the opening welcome team meeting. As they walked into the gym a cheerleader named Aline handed them each a schedule with a fake smile. Hoping the welcome would be fast Clary studied the paper.
7:00-7:15 Meet in your welcome groups
7:15-7:20 Split into individual welcome partners
7:20-7:50 Campus tour
8:00 First period begins
Looking down at the schedule Clary sighed, this was going to be a long day.
