They weren't coming.

My 'family'. My 'school'. My 'friends'.

They weren't looking for me anymore. It was policy. If a hunter's missing for more than two weeks then they're announced dead.

So I, the last of the Matthias bloodline, was pronounced dead. They were probably planning my funeral now. But who would even go? They were burying nothing.

Chase smiled at me as he handed me a plate of eggs and a glass of juice.

"Morning" I take the plate but ignore him, just as I had done for the past week. After he used his...his charm to get me to tell him my name, I had ignored him. He only wanted information. He didn't give a crap about. They must of injected some strong thing to make me actually believe that this wolf, was my mate.

Humans don't have mates.

"You're not talking to me still?" He asks, his tone sad. My heart clenches at the sound of it.

"Elliana" He says. I love the sound his mouth makes when he says my name. It doesn't sound normal. It sounds like something else. Something absolutely majestic. And then I begin to hate myself for thinking thoughts like that.

What if I was his mate?

"Will you speak to me please? I really miss the sound of your voice" He says wistfully. His hand inches closer to mine.

I had avoided contact with him too. And it was physically exhausting. I suddenly felt empty. Hollow. As if a piece of me was missing.

And that Chase was the missing bit.

"Why do I feel like this?" I take his hand into mine. He looks at me in shock.

"Because, you're my mate"

"I can't be your mate. I'm human"

"There are cases of human mates"

"I'm a hunter" I say. His eyes harden. Like he didn't want to acknowledge the fact that I was a hunter.

"I know" He whispers.

"I know what you want" I say after a moment of silence.

"You want me to tell you where she is? And then when I'm done, I'll be dead" I finish. He grabs my hands.

"I won't let them kill you"

"An Alpha against a member of its pack. I might not be a wolf but even I know who'll win"

"You're my mate. You're an exception"

"I can't tell you anything" I tell him.

"Why not?"

"Loyalty" I reply.

"That boy tried to run you over. They aren't even looking for you! Why the hell are you loyal to them?" He grabs my shoulders, his eyes black.

"I-I just am" And he walks out.
