"I was thinking.. Maybe you could text me sometime?" His light grey eyes scouted for something, anything to concentrate on that wasn't my face. The collected and calm atmosphere that had enveloped him was now gone, leaving behind a nervous boy who just wanted a chance.

Get it together Callie. Jude might not even be into you that way..

"You said that wrong.." I whispered.

Why can't I keep my mouth shut? Just don't look up expectantly. There's absolutely no way he heard me.

Though it was hardly more than a thought, somehow he heard.

"What?" He asked, confused.

I let my eyes drift up, not sure what to say next. I glanced around the room before some guy walking away with a napkin caught my attention.

Got it.

" You're suppose to ask for my number," I started playfully, "not give me yours."

A look of realization crossed his face as he groped for words.

"Yeah um... Ha ha" he laughed nervously, "I was wondering if.. maybe you'd let me call you later?"

"Yeah," I smiled, "I'd like that."

With his phone in hand I quickly typed in my number. I clicked the call option and held up my phone when it rang to show him it was in good faith.

He smiled playfully, the sophisticated atmosphere he once put off now returning.

Way to go Cal!! I thought with a sigh

Having finished my drink a half our before; I smiled, mentioning that I was late for a family function and had to go before making my way out of the now overcrowded after school hangout.

Once I was in my truck, safe from the "in" crowds watchful eyes I let out an excited giggle. Starting the engine, I glanced around to ensure that I wouldn't hit any pedestrians. Once my check was thorough enough to please, I pulled out of the parking lot and sped home.

"Dad? You home yet?" I yelled through the seemingly infinite hall.

"In here Callie!" He shouted.

By following the sound of his voice I ended up in the study.

Should've known I thought.

"It's 7:45. What are you doing still in here?" I queried.

"Oh, my. Is it that late already?" He mumbled almost to himself.

Gliding away from his seat, his attention turned towards me.

"In that case I'm sure you didn't just get back and that isn't the reason for your not knowing where I am correct?" He states more than asks.

I looked at him in dismay.

How could he have know that?

"Are you implying that I just got in and was obvious enough to actually ask where you were?" I countered.

"Cal, just give up. We both know that this family is known for their inability to lie."
