The Return Part 4

He tried to sit up and winced , hard.

" D-Don't try to get up" Jinx said , starting to stand wiping her eyes . " it will only make things worse" He sat back with a slight frown .

" If only this didn't happen" He mumbled under his breath. His eyes grew wide as he realized what he said , then he saw her face begin to scrunch up like she was going to start crying again. And he realized that she had heard him. ' Oh shit!' he thought ' Think of something fast before she blames herself' .

" Jinx come here" She leaned in closer till her face was right next to his, and he whispered softly into her ear. " I would do this all over again just to keep you safe" She pulled back with break neck speed, it startled him.

" Wally don't." She went to turn but he grabbed her hand, she was surprised of his grip being in the state he was.

" Wait" he half yelled. She relaxed in his grip. " Jinx this wasn't your fault, I wasn't going to let that thing hit you, It was me or you I choose the better option ."

" YOU THINK THAT WAS THE BETTER OPTION !" Jinx yelled , she then lowered her voice to a deadly whisper " I thought you died" Her voice got louder as she talked " I thought you left me to deal with the fact that I was the cause of all this" his face went slack , as if taking her words into consideration. " I just replay that memory over and over again , seeing you get hit , your body flying off." She brought her clenched fists to her temples , like she was trying to word off the memory . His expression showed fear , seeing her like this was like seeing a whole different person , this wasn't who he feel in love with this is a girl who blame herself. He wanted to make it stop. Wally carefully took her hands in his and held them to his chest .

" Please don't blame yourself for this" He asked "Look" he put her hands over his heart. " I'm still here"

" Barley" She whispered looking down. He chuckled

" Please Jinx, Do not beat yourself up over this, I did it to myself and I would do it again if it meant keeping you alive. Promise me you won't blame yourself for my actions" He looked at her hopefully.

"I-I Cant." In one swift movement she ripped her hands away from his grasp and was running out the door , despite his protests. He was asking her to come back, Pleading with her to reason with herself. She ignored all of it and ran down the hall, she had to get far away from here. She ran to their room and through herself down on the bed. She wanted nothing more than to diaper into a deep abyss. She should be happy that he's alive and on the road to recovery , But how could she not blame herself for this. She knew it was foolish to think this way. But her thoughts were to clouded to think strait

" so much for being the strong one." She whispered to the dark walls. Before she knew it she was faced with the fact that she was tired still. And she soon fell asleep.

She was awoken again to more banging on her door. It startled her so much she fell to the floor. With a huge groan she picked herself off the floor and cursed under her breath as she answered the door. She knew it was Starfire by just the pounding itself. She opened the cool steel door , to face a happy go lucky alien.

" Rise and Shine Jinxy " She said with a huge smile.

" Please don't call me that." Jinx snapped back , annoyance clearly written across her facial features. If Starfire noticed she did not let on.

" It is almost 9 am my dear friend why don't you get up and eat?"

" Not hungry" Jinx started to walk down the hall, away from Starfire .
