The Day I Battled Volcano Laki!!!

The Event :)

The date is June 8,1783 in a place called Iceland in the southern district of Síða in this place their is a Volcano called Laki. I was there the day when Laki erupted and poured out lava,bath salt,and some other chemicals. Of course the story won't start here it would be giving away too much. So I will start the story when I was a young lad so when I was just about to be born....... No actually that would be to fair back so I would say when i'm 12 years old and a few hours before Laki erupted.

My mamma came running at me with a sack of food while holding onto Nami's (my sister) hand when I was just about to go to the river with my best friend Manny. Manny is an orphan, both his parent died just when he was a baby so my mamma is like the mamma he has never known. Right when my mamma was about to kiss me on the forehead a tall man in black with a gold coin in his right hand and a tall black hat in his left hand. He placed the hat in his heart and bowed to my mamma then said "Greetings to you my fair lady,might I have a place to stay the night" He said to my mamma ,you see my mamma owns an Inn so most people who are new here stay at our Inn. "Yes you may,follow me if you will" my mamma said while pulling my sister back inside. Once they where inside manny and I went down to the river. Then all of a sudden the ground started to shake and a heat wave grazed past us making Manny and I fall to the ground. When we looked up their was a black cloud forming and coming out of Laki.

My first reaction was to run home but it was so dark that I couldn't see my hand right in front of my face. I started to panic and yell for Manny when I hear a faint cough and I slowly started to shuffle my way tordes Manny. Manny was under a tree and when I got there you could finally see what was going on,ash was slowly coming down from the sky like snow and at the same time it started to get colder and colder as time past. When I finally got to my house I went to my mamma and my sister who where inside sitting on the bech waiting for more customers. She looked puzzled to why I was covered in ash so I told her that there's a bunch ash outside on the ground and it was coming down like snow. When she looked out ash was all over the place and their was a black cloud stretching out so all you could see was a sky of black and couldn't see the the sky even when night came you couldn't see the stars. My mamma walked over to me and started to mumble the same sentence over and over again. "The sun fades away, the land sinks into the sea,the bright stars disappear from the sky,as smoke and fire destroy the world,and the flames reach the sky." I started to wonder who she hear that from but I never asked her and just let it be.

Two weeks had past and animals started to get bloated and swelled mouths they also started to get ridges and growths on their legs at first we thought that it was a animals disease so any animal that started to show these symptoms mamma would have that nomad come and shoot them to put them out of their misery. The nomad is the guy that checked into our Inn before the volcano laki erupted ever since then he has become good friends with my mamma but personally I don't like him very much .I found out his name later on and it turns out it is Grade. The water was also bad and no one would drink from it,when we went down to the river the water was like a mud pool and there was no fish to be seen. Plaints also started to die but that started to happen before the animals did.We also had rain come down and it burned when it touch skin even some of the plants started to get holes in them. Mamma said it was called acid rain and to not drink the rain. Then even people started to get sick but we didn't realize just how bad it would get.

Even my mamma started to get sick she would start to have a fever and she would also say that her leg would feel like they where asleep even though she was laying in her bed and she also said that it was very hard to move and she would start to have chest pains. It wasn't long before she past away in her sleep. Mamma was the first person to pass away and the first out of thousands to be buried. One after another people where getting buried in front of me people I knew or didn't it didn't even matter anymore all Manny,Nami, and I just thought about was to keep each other safe. Since Grade left before Mamma died and we where left alone by ourselves. Ever since Mamma died Nami never left my side and would hand onto my arm, hand, or the bottom of my shirt.

Eight months have past and the sky has finally started to clear up and you could finally see the sun. Even though the tragedy had finally stopped. The population was more than 50,000 people and one-quarter of them was lost. A few years latter we found out what had happened with some of our neighbouring states. They got the acid clouds too. Britain lost more than 20,000 people. The entire northern hemisphere dropped 1 degree C. The eastern united states average was 4.8 degrees C below the 225 year average. The eruption lasted for eight months and an estimated 14 km³ (about 3.7 quadrillion gallons) of lava poured out. Date is now 1799 and I am 21 and I go around to different place and tell about what I had been through and Nami goes with me to tell what happened, and Manny has settled down with a very pretty women and now also has a child. At least the good thing is that in your life you usually don't go through too many bad thing in your life but one big one.
