Chapter 1: the move

MADI TO THE SIDE>>>>

Madi's POV

I've never been one for leaving what I know and love, but when my father got a job offer across the country I was exited for him. So now here I stand in my empty house where I've lived my whole 18 years of being alive. I feel tears in my eyes and I quickly wipe them away. I have to be happy for my father since I'm all he has since mom left us 2 years ago, my only mother like figure is Eva my 'teacher' and my best friend considering she's the only one I ever talk to really since I don't get out much, the world can be frightening. That's all going to change because she's not coming with me and father she staying here in Georgia while we move to Montana. I really don't want to leave I'll miss it here I love the weather. The hot dry summers and the cool spring and fall and not to mention the not so cold winters, but in Montana the winters are cold and I don't like that. I just found out the other day that since Eva isn't moving with us I'll have to attend public school for my senior year and I'm not excited at all.
"Where's my little gem at," Eva calls. She calls me her little gem because she says I'm beautiful like a gem.
"I'm in my room Eva" 'or at least what's left of it' I think. Not too long after I say that i see her in the doorway with tear stained cheeks and I run up to her and hug her.
"I'll miss you so much Eva, and I'll never forget you" I say while I break the hug and look at her. I've never seen her so sad she's always been so cheerful and happy. I hate to see her this way.
"I'll miss you too my little gem don't forget to call"
"I won't" I say as I walk out of the room and soon out of the house and get in the passenger seat and my dad pulls out of the driveway and I wave to Eva, my only friend.

I take out my phone and earbuds and listen to my music until I drift off into sleep.

*****skip nap and car ride*****

My dad wakes me up as we pull into the driveway of the new house and I just stare at it in awe it's a mansion basically. There has to be like 15 rooms.
"What do you think Madi, there are 16 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms you can have any bedroom you please except the master of course." My dad says to me.
"Dad why do we need such a big house it's just the 2 of us?" I ask him in confusion. He gets out of the car and goes to the back and when he comes back he has a little Border Collie puppy.
"Make that 3 of us" he says and he hands it to me and says it's mine and I can name it whatever I want. So naturally I check the gender and it's a boy so I come up with a name for him
"Auggie , I'm gonna name him Auggie" I say looking between him and my dad.
"That's a beautiful name for him" I nod my head saying thanks and I take him Into the house so I can choose my room. I see a large room on the 3rd floor, did I mention it has 4 stories, with a big bay window that over looked miles of woods. So I set Auggie down on the bay window and say stay and I go and get my stuff.

When I get back to my room with some of my boxes Auggie is laying down asleep in the window. I decide I need to get my necessities and find the bathroom. I walk out of my bedroom and I see the bathroom is right across the hall. Score! So I get out to the truck and I grab my boxes and I put them on the thing with the wheels that carries a bunch of boxes at once and it just so happened to hold all of my boxes. I struggle to get it up to my room but I finally get it up there and Auggie is still asleep so now all I need is my dresser and mattress but my dad said he'd bring those up so I walk into my new bathroom that's all mine and I out everything where it goes and then when I walk into my room that it's far to boring and it needs some color. I skip down the stairs and ask my dad for some money to paint my room and buy new furniture and me being daddys little girl he said yes and gave me his credit card.
I take my time walking to the hardware store and just enjoy how small and quiet this town is. I've always enjoyed nature and seeing the miles and miles of never ending forest made me all giddy. When I walk into the store there's only a man maybe in his 60s there and he just looks at me strange but I brush it off thinking everyone knows everyone in a town like this. I walk back to the paint and I grab a black can of paint and a dark purple and walk back up to the front and pay and as soon as I'm about to grab them and go the man stops me.
"So you're new to town I'm guessing?"
"Yes sir I'm from Georgia"
"Well aren't you polite only if there were more girls like you I this town all we have is sluts" he says chuckling
"Thank you sir, I'm Madison but i go by Madi" I say to him
"Well miss Madison it's nice to meet you I'm Carl but everyone around here calls me grandpa"
"Nice to meet you too Carl, well I'll see you around I've got some house decorating to do"
"See ya miss Madison"
"Goodbye" I walk out the door and I start walking back home. As I'm nearing the house i see a little pet store and I go and get Auggie a few things and then I continue my journey back home. That's when I see it, the biggest house I've ever seen I mean it was huge. The whole town could probably live in it with every family getting 4 rooms. It was that big I just stopped and stared. After a good solid 5 minutes of staring I walk home and go up to my room to see my mattress on the floor and I think to myself I need to thank father tonight. I walk over to the bay window and set the cans down and it wakes Auggie up and he hops down and runs out the bedroom door and I let him run around. I get started on painting I did three walls black and the one wall dark purple and by the time I'm done its 10:00pm and I remember I have school tomorrow so I lay down and drift off to sleep.
