"Where do you guys want to go for dinner?" Asked a tall slender man. His dark brown hair looked almost black in the weak evening sun. His bright blue eyes met his daughter's dark ocean blue eyes as he looked into his rear view mirror.
"Friendly's!" She shouted, her own dirty blonde hair flying around her face as the wind whipped through her open car window.
"Ihop!" Her sister shouted at almost the same time." Instantly, the two twins turned to glare at each other. "Alaska, we always go to Friendly's!" Her sister whined.
"But Ihop is stupid! Pancakes are breakfast food not dinner food!" Alaska shot back.
"Pancakes aren't just a breakfast food, people eat them all the time for dinner!"
"No! That's stupid! Daad help mee!" Alaska begged. Her father laughed and shook his head.
"I like Alaska's idea." He laughed. Alaska's mother shook her head. "What?" He asked her.
"Nothing, you just always side with her and never Alexandria." She sighed.
"I do too side with Alex! I just want Friendly's!" He objected. She just shook her head again.
"We're going to Ihop's and thats final." She huffed and stared out her window. Alaska huffed back at her and stuck her tongue out at sher sister. Alex stuck her tongue out back at her and smiled triumphantly.
Alaska's father smiled sympathetically at her through his rear view mirror. Alaska just shook her head and went to look out her window but movement on the road distracted her. Her eyes widened in horror as a car swerved out of their lane and into the path of the car. "Daddy watch out!" She screamed.
Her fathers eyes flicked quickly to the road and he immediately turned the wheel sharply to the right, hoping to avoid the oncoming car. Alaska watched as time seemed to slow down. Three seconds. Out of the corner of her eye she saw her mother fling her arms over her face, her mouth frozen in a silent scream. Two seconds. She felt pressure in her hand as her twin gripped it with all her strength. One second. Alaska couldnt bring herself to do anything but look once more into her fathers now horror struck eyes. Impact.
