The park was silent, save the quiet rumbling of a distant highway. Kalei sat still under a tree, soaking in the peace. Birds flitted past her vision, emerald grass swayed, and the sun glinted off the morning dew. But suddenly, it was dead silent.
Black. That's all Kalei could see. But when the darkness lifted, she saw hands. Rough, tanned, weathered hands holding her, roughly gripping her arm. A gunshot.
Kalei squirmed, trying to get free from her captors before she got shot. Another gunshot. A yell. Kalei was blinded.
