Meeting X Gon & X The Gang

      I startled awake when I heard shouting and looked over to see what the ruckus was about. A boy that looked about my age was standing at the edge of the boat waving to pretty much the whole island. He had black spiky hair that had a green tint to it. He was wearing green shorts, green boots, and a green jacket rimmed with orange. 

      "I'm going to become the best hunter in the world! Once I'm the best hunter in the world, I'll come back!" the boy shouted back to what I think is his friends or family.

      "The best hunter in the world? Kid doesn't respect us. Every year, there are millions of skilled applicants for the hunters exam. But only a handful are selected. Don't say stuff that you can't back up, boy," one of the mean looking men stated.

      The boy started walking across the ship after that. Bored, I looked around until something caught my eyes. A wooden crate was floating beside the boat. I decided to find out what was in it. I managed to pull it up on the deck of the ship after a minute. The crate landed on the deck hard, and a yelp sounded from the box. I slowly pried open the crate, and what I saw inside surprised me. It was an almost full-grown, black wolf pup. He also had a broken off trailing chain around his front right leg. The pup looked up at me with big scared eyes, and I smiled gently to it.

      I gently took the pup out and set it down. The pup was a boy, and would be a very large wolf when he was full grown.  I took some dried deer meat out of my pocket and coaxed the pup towards me with it. I think he could tell that I was part fox and that I didn't mean any harm. The pup tentatively reached out and took the meat from me. Once he gave it a good sniff to make sure it wasn't poisoned, he gobbled it down faster than I could have said I. He then jumped on me, and started licking my face with gratitude.

      "You need a name....How about Midnight?" I softly stated to the black pup. 

      He yipped and licked my face more, which I took as a yes. Suddenly the seagulls started squawking badly. Midnight looked up as well but started to whine with his ears down and tail in between his legs. My eyes drifted back up to the seagulls, and I took a deep breath of air. The air was sharp and crisp, with the scent of water after it rains. Usually seagulls wouldn't be bothered by a little storm, so I knew this was going to be a big storm.

      I pat my side, to tell Midnight to follow me, and went below deck. The room was kind of crowded, and it was hard to find a spot to sit. Finally I found a spot big enough for me and Midnight. Right as we sat down, or layed down in Midnight's case, the boat started to rock and sway badly. 

      After a while, the captain decided to check on us. When he first came in, he didn't see me, the boy, or two other people that didn't get sea-sick. One of the other people that was left was a teenager who I had trouble figuring out if he was a boy or girl. He was a he. He also had blonde hair, and wore tribal looking clothes. The other of the two looked to be around his late 20's or early 30's. He had black hair and was wearing a suit and some weird looking glasses.

      The captain saw the blonde first, when he shifted in his hammock. He then looked over to the old man when he bit into an apple that was sour. Midnight then started whining at the lack of attention I was giving him, so I looked down and pet him right below the ear, every canine's special spot. I felt the eyes of the captain, the blonde, the old man, and the boy on me.

      One of the crew members then rushed in with water. The boy let a sea-sick hunter exam applicant drink the water. The captain called us all into another room where the steering wheel of the boat is.

      "First tell me your names," the captain told us in an almost demanding manner.

      "I'm Gon!" shouted the boy while raising his hand.

      "I'm Kurapika," the blonde said with an overly straight and serious face

      "It's Leorio," the old man said with a bored tone.

      "I'm Star, and this is Midnight," I said while gesturing to Midnight to not leave him out.

      "Why do you wan't to become hunters?" the captain said also bored.

      "Hey! If your not an examiner, you cant boss us around!" Leorio yelled, unimpressed.

      "Just answer the question," the captain stated calmly.

      Seeing that Leorio wasn't going to answer, I said, "I heard about the hunters exam and had nothing better to do."

      "My dad is a Hunter. I left Whale Island because I want to know why my dad desired so much to be a hunter," Gon stated proudly.

      "Hey, kids! Your not supposed to answer his question!" Leorio accused.

      "I don't see the reason why not to," I stated confused.

      "Not a team player huh? I don't wish to reveal why I'm here," Leorio said while poking me and Gon's foreheads.

      "I agree with Leorio," Kurapika said to the captain while Leorio got mad at him for not showing him respect.

      "It's quite simple to avoid pesky questions by offering a plausible lie. However, it is quite shameful to rely upon deceit. That said, if I were to tell you the truth, I would be exposing my deepest secrets. That's why I can not provide you an answer," Kurapika said deeply.

      "Wow, that was deep," I couldn't help but add.

      " In other words, you refuse to answer my question. Hey, Katsou, Tell the examination board that we have two more drop outs," the captain said coolly.

      "What do you mean?" Leorio asked just now realizing it.

      "You still haven't figured it out? The Hunter examination has already begun," the captain said with a strait face.

      "What!?" Leorio and Kurapika shouted.

      Midnight started to pull on my jacket, so I looked down. He was looking at me with those big amber eyes, whining. I was confused and tuned out the rest of the conversation trying to figure out what had gotten Midnight scared like that. The rest happened in a blur, until a crew member shouted that there was a waterspout. The captain told one of the crew members to lower the sails. Gon and I ran after to help.

      I stopped when I saw Leorio and Kurapika facing off on the lower deck. Everyone was pulling the sails when suddenly one of the ropes slipped and Katsou flew over to me knocking me past Leorio and Kurapika, and over the side of the boat. Leorio and Kurapika lunged for me, but missed. Gon ran up and grabbed my arms before I went into the ocean. Leorio and Kurapika both grabbed onto one of Gon's legs.

      The rest of the crew pulled us up again. When I got back on board, Midnight ran up and jumped on me, and started licking my face. Leorio and Kurapika started to scold Gon about if they hadn't grabbed on to him at the last moment. After Midnight was done licking me, he ran up to Gon and started to lick him while I thanked him. The captain started laughing.

      "I like you guys! Okay! I'll take responsibility for bringing you four to the port closest to the exam site," the captain said still laughing

      "Really? What about your test?" Gon said happily.

      "Like I said, its my decision to make. And all four of you pass!" the captain said with a smile.

      Me, Leorio, and Kurapika smiled while Gon shouted and said 'Yes!' Hunter exam here we come!
