"Kimba?"
I stepped into the kitchen to find Kimberley sitting there, looking like she hadn't slept a wink. She didn't react when I said her name, or went to sit beside her, not even when I
touched her hand.
"Kim? How come you're up so early?"
"Couldn't sleep."
"Why? What's wrong?"
She looked at us then, a look that plainly said, what a stupid question.
"You should have woke us." I said awkwardly. She didn't answer. I sighed and stood up, going to the fridge.
"D'you want some breakfast?"
"No."
"Just a bit of toast?"
"No."
"Kim you've not eaten properly in ages... you're really worrying us."
Kimberley raised her head. "How can you act like everything's okay?"

*Kimberley's POV*
I was supposed to be meeting Cheryl from work, but it had been two whole days since we found out we were having a boy and I couldn't wait any longer. I left her a text, telling her to make her way to the shopping centre and call me when she was there. I went straight for Mothercare, intending to buy a few babygro's, and a little outfit for when we brought him home from the hospital.
"And just what do you think you're doing?"
I grinned as Cheryl's hands grazed my hips and turned to face her. "How did you know where I was?!"
"Oh, just a hunch. We agreed we'd wait until weekend and do this with your parents!"
"I'm sorry, I'm just too excited... look at this! It's so cute, Chez, it's got little ears..."
I pouted pleading at her as she took the tiger themed babygro, pursing her lips and trying not to smile.
"Oh alright... I can't pretend I've not been desperate to buy this place out since Monday..."
I kissed her cheek and she giggled, resting her hand on my bump. "How's my little man cooking?"
"He's just fine. He was just telling me he likes this one too." I smirked, pointing out an outfit bearing the words, 'I just got here and I'm already awesome!'
"We're gonna be bankrupt by the time he gets here aren't we?" Cheryl sighed dramatically. I just kissed her again. "It's only a couple of babygro's!"
"Yeah but look at those little converse! Oh my God, Kimberley I can't leave without these now!"

*Cheryl's POV*
"Babe... I'm not acting like everything's okay, I'm--"
"Yes you are. It's only been a month, you're going on like he was never h-here -"
Kimberley's voice broke and I went to her side, putting my arm around her, but she shrugged us off and stood up, leaving the room. I followed her.
"Kim, please... look if you want to talk about--"
"Just go to work Cheryl."
"I'm not leaving you like this." I said, following her up the stairs. "We need to talk about this."
"There's nothing to say. We lost our baby. You're fine with it, I'm not."
I stopped at the bedroom door, glad to have the frame to grip onto or I'm sure I would have fallen at those words.
"H-how can you - you think I'm - fine with it?! How can you say that Kimberley, how can you even think that?"
She didn't answer. I didn't know if I was more upset or angry.
I went with angry.
"I'm not going anywhere until you talk to us. Why would you say that?"
"You think I should be over it by now don't you?"
"Of course not, babe... Kimba please look at me." I begged, watching her stood at the window with her back to me. "I don't know what to do... I want to help you, I can't do that if you won't tell me what you're feeling then just get mad at us for asking you a simple question."
"I feel empty."
My eyes filled with tears. I went to approach her, but changed my mind and just stood awkwardly in the middle of the room.
"And there's nothing you can do about it, so just go to work and get on with things like you have been doing for weeks."
I tried to speak without sounding like I was upset; for some reason I thought it would make Kimberley angry.
"D'you really want us to go?"
"That's what I said."
"I'll go if you promise to call me if you need me."
"...Okay."
"You promise?" I said firmly. Kimberley had never, ever broken a promise to me, not the tiniest of promises, not the biggest ones.
"Yeah, I promise."
"I'll see you later then." I said, making a mental note to finish as early as possible and get home.
