Chapter 6 Alone with Austin

I marveled on the beauty of the moon. The view was just breath taking. I looked to my right…Austin. He was still plucking the petals off the flower.

“It was our first time here. Only, we got here by accident. We were running away from our parents who kept teasing us,” Austin explained.

A wide smile was plastered on my face – drawn by the thought that that was the time when I finally admitted to myself that I liked him.

He showed me the flower he was playing with. He was down to the last petal, “This flower is so nosy. She says you have feelings from me.”

I gulped. I could feel my blood rushing to my cheeks – I was flashing red. My heart started pounding against my chest.

I burst into laughter, “you are so funny.” I looked away from embarrassment.

He rested his arms on my shoulders. He leaned closer and pinched my cheeks, “you are so cute when you blush.”

I turned to him and I was red again. My heart was beating ever so fast as I looked deep into his eyes. He wrapped his arms around my waist and slowly leaned in to kiss me.

“Austin, I’m surprised to see you here,” a woman’s voice called out from behind.

We turned to her direction and saw his girlfriend.

Austin quickly pulled away. Alex went near us, “are you Breiada? You really are pretty. You’re the subject of his every conversation.”

“What are you doing here?” Austin asked.

“My parents were so stressed out from work so they came here to unwind;” she went on, “Can you come with me? I want my parents to meet you.”

Austin looked at me. There was concern in his eyes. I could tell that he wanted me to say “no” but I’m merely his friend. Besides, I don’t make his decisions. I don’t want them to fight because of me.

“Don’t worry! I’ll be fine. They’re probably back by now,” I finally said.

Alex tugged on his arm and he stood up. He was gradually disappearing when he turned to me. I waived him goodbye and smiled.

I leaned on the back rest. I looked down – feeling so depressed. I should have said no. I should have held his hand. I should have kissed him when he wanted me too. Dang! I just had to let it come to this.

“Why don’t you just tell him how you feel,” my mom approached.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked.

“Well, let’s just say, I always liked detective games;” she went on, “so go ahead and tell him already.”

“Mom, I haven’t lost my mind yet. Besides, I want us to stay friends,” I said – nearly halting when I said “friends.”

I looked at the petals on the floor. I then picked up the flower that now had one petal. Its beauty was gone but, I have to admit, this flower did kind of brought us closer literally.
