I looked down into the dark, and abandoned subway station. I took my gas mask out of my pack. I slipped it on and took a filter out of my jacket. I I put the filter on the mask and tightened it. I synced my watch. I had about 25 minutes to get through the subway. I slowly walked down the ceramic steps. I turned on my headlamp, only to see floating bodies and dirty murky water. I jumped in.

The water reached up to my ankles, but still had the possibility of being dangerous. I trudged over to the half submerged subway car. I went into the car. It was dark and moldy. I went to the back a opened the emergency door. I jumped onto the ladder and climbed up onto the top of the train car. I slowly crouched on top of the train car, narrowly avoided holes in the roof. That's when I felt it's presence.

It couldn't be. We haven't seen them in years. The creatures. They were here, in the tunnels with me. I could feel them enclosing me in the darkness that my flashlight couldn't illuminate. I felt goosebumps all over my body as I looked around for something I couldn't see. There. I saw my exit. I felt them closing in faster as I went faster. Suddenly I fell. My headlamp had cracked and broken. I had approximately 4 minutes of air left and had no spare filters. I took my Bayonet out of its holster. It was the only weapon I had.

I could see the golden sunlight from the broken window of the car. I had to get out of here fast. I try and get up and feel a searing pain shoot through my body. I feel at my chest and feel a metal pole sticking out the side of my body. I had been impaled and hadn't noticed the blood pooling around me. Blood. That's what they loved. I pull the pole out of my chest and get up. It hurts like hell, but I do it. I won't let them take me down easily. I had 2 minutes of air.

I smash right through the doors at the front of the train and land in the water with a big splash. I get up, covering the wound with my hand. I needed to apply the bandages I had brought, or else I would die. I started to climb the ceramic steps up and up. I could feel the ceramic change to concrete and the stairs get narrower. I rushed out and sudden sunlight flooded my eyes. Glorious sunlight. I had survived the trek through the most dangerous part of journey.

I took out a wad of bandages and wrapped it around. I needed to find shelter quickly because the streets were covered in snow. I ran to an abandoned coffee shop and burst through the door. I grabbed a wooden plank and shut the door and put the stick in between the handles. The bottom floor was the only intact part of the structure. The top floor had no roof and the front walls were missing. I sat behind the wooden counter and turned on my gas lantern. Thousands of thoughts rushed through my mind at once. How could the creatures still be out there? They've been in hiding for over 2 years now, why would they come back?

The creatures got rid of half the population and would inhabit dark, abandoned, and creepy places. When we found out they disappeared 2 years ago, some areas could be traversed again. Why would they come back? I thought about it until I drifted off.
