“What did I say about not harming her?”

I groaned as a deep voice awakened me from my state. A headache was forming right between my eyes.

“I’m sorry Sir, but she was being a nuisance,” a calm voice replied to the first; angry, voice. Peeling my eyes open, I winced as bright light met them; oddly resembling the first day that I woke up on this island.

The fist voice growled, “That is no excuse, how will we get her to be an ally to us, if you have harmed her in a way that goes beyond moral standards?”

The sound of flesh against flesh rung through the air and I assumed someone got hit. “Of course, sir; excuse my failure to withhold your word,” a submissive voice bit out.

Finally able to open my eyes properly, I gazed at the two men that were standing on the other side of the room. To my surprise, one of them was Lom- I mean, Sedric. His head was bowed in compliance and I could see the telltale sign of a bruise forming on the side of his face.

The other man had steel colored hair, the length down to his shoulders. His face was crinkled in light wrinkles and he held an impressive-looking cane in both of his hands. A scowl was etched onto his face, and he was glaring at Sedric. Who was this man?

“I think it would be a good idea for you to go to your room and think about disobeying my orders. I will see you in the morning, my son,” the old man commanded. Sedric nodded and turned to leave through the door adjacent to him.

Before leaving, he glared at me hatefully; like it was my fault that he was getting punished.

After Sedric had left, the old man, who I presumed was Sedric’s father, turned to the cherry wood desk that stood behind him. “You know, the worst trait a person can have, is to be an eavesdropper,” he inquired with his back to me.

Not knowing whether he was talking to me or someone else, I decided to just stay quiet. The sound of liquid flowing into a glass came from the old man, but I couldn’t see what he was pouring.

“You and I are a lot alike; we both are strong-willed and we take charge of a situation whether we are needed or not. I have to admit, though, that you are far better at this than I am. That is why I’m going to offer you a proposal,” the silver-haired man turned to face me. A smug look lined his features but it was hidden behind the creepy smile that stretched across his face.

“I don’t want anything to do with you,” I growled at him. To my utter disbelief, a look of shock crossed his features.

“But child, don’t you know that I had nothing to do with the harm that was brought upon you? That was my idiot son, Sedric, which I’m sure you’ve met. He can’t even do something as easy as escort someone into my estate that I would like a diplomatic conversation with,” he shook his head remorsefully.

I don’t even know why, but when the old man had slandered his own son, something inside of me had broken just a little bit, even though Sedric had that coming to him from miles away.

“I don’t know who you are, but I don’t want to make any kind of dea-.”

“Oh my, it looks like I have forgotten to introduce myself; my name is Dr. Luxum, but you may call me Dean,” my stomach churned when he said that. I don’t know about anybody else, but the way he said that made me think he was suggesting something.
