Purgatory

Lights.

For an eternity, all I see are pale blue dots gracefully drifting around me; shining lightly. Occasionally I hear whispers from these lights, but I can never quite understand what they're saying to me. I imagine they're just informing me that I'm dead anyway. As millenniums pass by, I notice that one by one the blue dots are fading away. A rising tide of panic begins to form, before being washed away just as quickly. My time in purgatory must be coming to an end I realise, I've lived a good life so I'm hoping I get accepted into Heaven; but Heaven has already been destroyed for me so there must only be one stop left. Eventually only two blue dots are left. I frown. They've stopped fading. If I'm going to go ..there.. it might as well be sooner rather than later, the anticipation would be killing me. Now that I've stopped to think about it, they seem to be getting closer to me - they even appear to be materialising. I wearily stand up and reach out, a small flame of hope burns inside me. Maybe I won't go down there, maybe, just maybe, he's calling me up. I touch the lights.
