FIVE MONTHS LATER
Thursday, May 12
"Odeya!" Miles shouts. He bursts into my room.
"What's up?" I say.
He holds up the radio from the kitchen. "Listen to this."
"Miles, I am tired of hearing my name on the radio." I rub my forehead.
"This is different." He twists the volume knob clockwise.
The radio guy says, "Hello, caller number one! What song would you like me to play?"
"I'd love it if you played "Bumper Cars" from Alex and Sierra." The voice haunts me. Nick. "My girlfriend went missing five months ago on this day. I dedicate this song to her..."
"I'm sorry to hear that. I have faith that she'll come home safely. Would you like to say anything to her while you're on?"
There's a small pause.
"Odeya, if you're listening, please come back. I hope you're safe. I miss you. I love you."
